If you are interested in importing a dog from Europe, make sure it has been on heartworm prevention, been recently tested for them or you test once it arrives.

I'm thinking that some of these countries have not had studies done an that's why they are still show no infections.

Don't believe it if a breeder or broker says "we don't have them here".

The Germans have an integrated pest management program for mosquito control and I think the Rhine Valley has few mosquitos. The mosquitos must accumulate heat units at the onset of the season so it delays the onset of the season in Northern Germany.

In some countries, they say "we don't have heartworms here, and we dont need to check or treat". All I can say is buyer beware.
Testing and year round prevention is required..
Prevention only kills baby worms, an adult worm can continue reprocuding in the winter months when its not given.
