I have several dogs now changed to Royal Canin very slowly and all have yellowish stools. Why? I change the food over 2 months.

Ive had some problems with RC in the past. My male would get pudding like stools on that stuff, never consistent hardness. I think we may have gotten a few bad bags, maybe out of date or something. As soon as I switched food it hardened right up and hasnt been a problem since. I dont know about the yellowish thought. He did have some off color poo once when he got into a dead bird that was in the back yard.

Off Color Poo, Can indicate Gall issues, Please have this checked with your vet ASAP, Off color or lack of color light color to white, is not good !!

Wow, yeah his was yellowish swirled into the usual black once. My boy is fine. GSDLVR2, I hope your dogs are alright. Good luck!

I must say that I feed my dog RC as well, to be honest my dog actually prefered that type of food himself when he was a pup, he refused to eat Alava and Nutra Nuggets (guess he felt that NG wasn't quite healthy, in case you heard of the several bad bags that caused kidneys' failure to some dogs...). Anyway, I give him the Veterinary RC, for skin and digest. Thank God the poo is good, sometimes it's yellowish, but because he might'veeaten something in addition to that.... Although we always give him something with the food: meat, boiled chicken, liver... And he always eats dairy for breakfast.
Anyway, I do believe that RC is not a bad food at all, and maybe the problem was with the bags themselves. Maybe it WAS something else that your dogs might've eaten, you must remember that the GSD bowel is one of the most sensitive organs.
Hope your dogs are better now!

Is there anything I can add to the food to help? The stools are not light yellow and it isn't ever stool. Sometimes it's brown on the outside and yellowish inside. I will call my vet also. No particular odor change either.
The only other thing my dogs could have eaten was added fat that I sometimes put with a meal. Could that be the problem, not the food?

Doesnt fat increase the chance of bloat? GSDLVR2, what did the yellow stuff look like? Now to think of it I do remember seeing one of his turds once break open and in the middle there was this yellow chalky like powder substance. I used RC maxi 24 for GSDs. I had to take him off that stuff. Switched to Wellnesss, not a single problem with that stuff except he liked it too much and tore into the bag. Now hes on Timberwolf and still no problems, he also loves that food as well.
Maybe you should consult a vet or take in a sample to see what they say. If they are acting okay and you dont want to take them to vet Id just try switching food, but Im no vet and this is just what Id do.
Let me know what happens and how it goes. Take care!

I don't know about a connection with fat and bloat. I have added about 1 T. of either canola oil or vegetable shortening to 1 meal per day but not everyday, never more than that to increase calories a little. When I saw the broken stool the yellowish color was the only odd thing, not chaulky inside. I started with Wellness but worried about the puppy formula not being for large breeds and knowing I will have bitches and puppies on it. I also use the RC maxi 24. They all act just fine . I will consult my vet but wanted to gather some info from people with experience with the food and GSD's first so I can ask better questions of the vet.

I feed Royal Canin to all of our pack, and the stools are always medium brown to dark brown, depending on the dog. That is of course unless they have eaten other things.
It is possible to get a bad lot of any dog food, I suppose, and that lot might stay on the store shelf for a long time, especially in the case of Royal Canin or some of the other premium foods that are sold to a limited amount of customers. There is a lot of product turnover with the cheap stuff, so if there is some bad product it disappears very quickly.

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=524&cat=8 Here is where I saw the thing about the fat. The fat they are talking about is chicken fat though.
