Hello Everyone,
What size crate do you use for your GSD puppies age 8 weeks to say 16 weeks?
I borrowed a welded wire puppy crate (can't remember the size) for Cisco when I brought him home two years ago....Unfortunately....that crate is not available for use this time.
I was thinking about a 30" since she will probably grow out of a 24" fairly quickly........any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cheri

I bought 42", I know it's big but my pup still used it at 6 months old ........ Bought brand new on eBay very cheap.

Thanks Dogshome........I haven't looked at eBay yet but it's on my list......I have a 36", 42" and Cisco uses a 48" crate.

I would go ahead and get a big one.  You can reduce the size in the beginning and she'll appreciate the extra sleeping room when she is grown.  Crates are not cheap.  Craigslist is good also check garage sales and flea markets.

how many more days before the bundle of joy comes home?

From past experience I would recommend going for the Extra Large Crate. They usually come with a divider so you can move the divider accordingly. Every week just about I was moving the divider further and further back. Now, she fits perfectly in her crate, she can stretch out all the way and it is really nice and roomy.  Save your self some coin, and simply go big right off the bat. Do you know how many dog crates I have donated to the humane society over the years???
Quite a few experts have been recommending using an airline crate.  Apparently, a lot of dogs are getting caught in the wire crates like the ones sold at TSC.

Since the OP says 8-16 weeks, I currently have a 10 week old puppy in a 24" during the day (when I'm not home) and he sleeps in a 20".

Eldee.....I had totally forgotten that Cisco's 48" crate came with a divider.
She can use that one then graduate to the 36" and on to the 42".

Fawnda.....I will be bringing her home in threes weeks......I'm so excited I can't wait Teeth Smile

VKGSD's...we posted at the same time.....thanks for the info...I was not sure how much space to give her.
When I brought Cisco home he weighed 19lbs. (a big puppy) and quickly grew out of the borrowed crate....I'm thinking it had to have been a 24".
