Took a couple of my "grandpups" (Capri and Caleb's grand pups) to sell for the owner because I wanted to see what they were like and wondering about this guy's coat. Just for fun, any guesses as to how fluffy he'll be as an adult? He is adorable, both in looks and temperament, regardless.

Nah, just 'plush'

I know, but how "plush"? Just fluffy? Or less? I had a pup super fuzzy, fuzzier than this guy, from Czech lines, that turned out to have the shortest coat of the bunch. This guy isn't from my breeding, directly, so I have no idea what his mother's side throws, but she's got some big name showlines a few generations back so I'm wondering if this isn't just the showline plush coat and this is how they look at this age? He did have the "small eyes" look at a few weeks old, but he doesn't have distinct long hairs in between his toes or anything and his ear hair is the same as the rest of his hair. I think he's adorable, no matter what it ends up being, but he's been passed up a number of times for his coat! People think he's a "longhaired" GSD and don't want any part of him! I told the breeder that if he ends up being a LSC, that's NOT A FAULT!!! And boy, what a temperament on this little guy...full of fun and mischief, rolls with the punches, always up for a game of ball or tug and sweet sweet sweet to boot!
My Bravo was thought to be just fuzzy but I was fairly sure he was coated...thankfully his owner was smarter than the people who passed up this guy and didn't care when I told him I thought he was going to be coated! I *KNOW* what mine look like if they're coated...this guy is confusing me a little. Like in the other thread, there are so many variations even amongst LSC and SC it's tough to say sometimes but the waiting is killing me;-)

Oh my gosh I want him!!!!! I'm not sure there's a cuter puppy on the whole Earth!! I've been following them on Facebook, but I don't remember seeing him. I'll have to look again!
He looks coated... His sire has a thicker coat without being coated, was he fluffy like this as a pup?
Gah, I can't get over that first picture... so cute!

Can be difficult, can't it ? I don't know for sure Jen, I
think you'll just have to wait a little while longer and
see. If you are trying to sell him and he is bought in the
meantime, can't you just level with them and say he may
go one way or the other ? [How would that sit w/ the breeder ?]
IMO the odds are he is just a standard /stock, maybe
won't even finish particularly furnished /plush.
He really doesn't look like either 'long' option from here.
Usual caveats about only a photo to go on etc !
If he's all that you say he is, I hope you find someone
who appreciates his qualities and values what he is as
a dog first, over what his coat length ends up & what he
can win. Wish you best of luck.

I'm telling people he's possibly a LSC, but stressing that I am only familiar with half the genetics...so this coat is a mystery and not to be disappointed if he ends up looking like a regular ol' GSD;-) . I really thank you for your input. I'll be sure to post when I figure it out for sure. I thought I was sure, now I'm not....lol.
Dawulf, no, Cavak had a very tight coat until a few months old when he got his shiny black mature coat. Capri's pups who get her kind of silky, plusher coat start out with a coat that almost looks mole-ish early on. before their adult coat comes in. Cavak's coat was nothing to write home about at all, and Dylan got it, too. I've had to assure people that the worse the coat looks early on in these litters (including one in this litter) the nicer it usually ends up when the adult coat comes in. I was thinking he might have a poor coat, but I was totally wrong...that must be what Capri had when she was very small. It really shouldn't be that important...people are weird. You know, the breeder told me that there were people who came to see pups who didn't even want to see Cavak because he's black?!
He is adorable, isn't he? Cutest little guy...he was so proud of himself for managing to get his mouth around a soft ball when his brother couldn't, LOL! Oh, what would Grandma say if you brought home a friend for Qira?! Yikes...I shudder to think.....................

We can certainly agree that people are weird ! Its like this
thing with black dogs (not just GSDs) - what on earth have
some people got against them that they let that be their
determining factor ? SMH ...

That is interesting! Looking at his pictures now I'd expect him to have been a very fluffy puppy. Were there any coats in that litter? I didn't think Caleb carried the coat gene - at least he didn't *look* like he did. I'm assuming Cavak probably has Capri's coat gene, since he's so "fluffy"... but who know's about the dam of this litter. She doesn't *look* like a carrier, but who knows! She looks like she has a short, but "plush" coat, so maybe the possibility is there! I also think it is interesting on how Cavak's "bleedthrough" markings are very similar to Capri's bicolor ones. I'd be curious to know what he turns out like - he is so damn CUTE!!!
Tsk, people can be so weird when it comes to black animals. I once was walking Chey past a gas station and the clerk came running out shouting at me to "keep that thing the hell away from me and my car!" I believe we circled the parking lot after that and then kept walking. ;)
Heh, Grandma would murder me... and I think Qira would help her LOL! She hates sharing attention with Chey, I can't imagine what it would be like with a puppy. But I can dream!! Grandma still says she doesn't like Qira, but everyone knows thats not true. Both the dogs get treats when they come in from outside from her (once a day), and the other day was really funny 'cause Qira took the treat a little to harshly and kinda got her finger... Grandma popped her on the nose with the treat bag and says "You're not ever getting anymore treats from me!! ...Ever!! ...Today!!"
He looks like he has a rounder head too? Isn't that sometimes indicative of a coated?

he will have a coat like many of the top conformation dogs. IMO
not slick, not not long stock coat.
a coat that people will want to run their fingers thru.

Oooh, I cannot pass up a black GSD .... obviously LOL.
Gorgeous pup, I don't think a full LSC. But you really never know, My first GSD pup at 5/6 months had a really short slick coat. She blossomed into a full LSC as she matured. No indication that she would be as a pup, other than a general overall puppy fuzz which all pups have, and slightly hairy ears LOL. I must dig out her puppy photos and look again, but she had a really short coat as a pup.
