I just sent these in to OFA, what do you think she (2  years old this past January).
I'm going to say mild or moderate.......laxity and thickening femoral  head. What you say?

Why did you send them to OFA?

Since they will use the rating of the worst hip. I'm thinking moderate to severe for all the reasons you have already stated plus remodeling and Norberg angle is not within the normal range.

her left leg is not completely extended, i'm sure that makes it look even worse.

she is super athletic, and has super movement.........

Sitasmom,IMO you could have this dog xrayed 100 times and she's never going to pass OFA. The rating is immaterial.  I'd be willing to bet that dogs with similar and worse hips have competed in and completed the Iditarod. If she's not lame, she will be a great companion dog. . Just not for breeding?

Moderate HD.

Everyone bitches when people don't send in non-passing x-rays, and now SM sends some in so they're in the database (maybe...if she checked the box...) for everyone's benefit re: research, and we act like she's a moron or something for sending them in...

Moderate

Jenni makes a very good point.  Currently the rate for HD according to the OFA is something around 20%... BUT these are only the ones submitted... makes one wonder what the true percentage is in the breed.

by Blitzen on 12 April 2013 - 23:04

I asked why she was submitting the xrays, Jenni, I didn't say or suggest she was a moron for doing it. Some breeders require an OFA evaluation before offering a replacement. Do you use OFA and would you submit an xray that obviously won't pass? Why?

by SitasMom on 12 April 2013 - 23:04

I send every set of x-rays that I've had have taken.
Its my little part to make sure the statistics stay true.
I did not sign in the box, but the statistics will be in the database.

I will report on what the outcome is.

I rescued this female, about 8 months ago, she was is horrible condition, seriously underfed, pregnant, showed signs of abuse and "0" training. Its taken me several months for her to come without hunkering down and peeing. She is now ready for basic obedience, and once she can make a good pet, I will spay her and find a good home for her. She's come a very long way and I was praying that she could enter the best phase of her life without pain........
