Is it silly to love a breed so deeply that it hurts to see them?
I have no problem drawing or reading about german shepherds, but as soon as I see one in real, so close I can almost touch them, then it hurts so bad, I get so emotional it´s scary.
I haven´t been close to a shepherd in years, I was about 9 when my grandpas shepherd passed away (its her on the profile pic), today im 21. I grew up with her, she was a pup when I was a kid
I don´t remember much from those days since I was so young, but I had enough time with her for her to leave a huge impression and empty room, only this breed can fill this space, others have said "Get a poodle" but they don´t understand.
One day I hope this space will be filled once again.
I hope this is in the correct category, and sorry that this is kind of a rant but I needed to get this out of me somewhere where people will hopefully understand what I´m feeling.

Not 'silly' at all, IMO.
I preferred the GSD as a child, but was unable to have any dog.
So I walked dogs for other people. Mostly they were not GSDs,
and I remember falling for a white GSD which was a 'guard dog'
on a building site next to my Primary School (so I was about 9
years old), at 'arms length' cos I never got to do anything but look
at him through a fence. When I was 14 I finally got a 'client' with
first one Shepherd, then two - again, these were local 'guard dogs'.
After I grew up and went to work, I always thought 'one day' I'll
have a GSD - but there was never time and space and money
enough to have any dog and be fair to it, give it a good life ...
I went on dog-walking and pet-sitting at intervals until I was in my
late 30s and working part-time, before taking on a Shepherd of my
own; but in all that time, I had studied the breed, collected whatever
I could about them, gone and spectated at dog shows and working
trials etc whenever I could. So I understand exactly the feelings you
are talking about.
I have been very lucky in my later years, first making friends with some-
one with a Show kennel and helping with her dogs, then working full time
for a dozen years with someone else's large private kennel. Now that is
over, I just have my 10 yr old male - who may be my last - and the com-
panionship of like minded ppl on PDB. And some terrific memories.

Once I get my hands on one I know the pain will dissapear, thanks for replying.
I am starting up a dog care soon, so hopefully the two GSDs in the village will come by sometime, I will grab onto those moments until I can get my own friend, I got a kennel in contact but it will have to wait for some time before I buy one since I want everything to be all set and ready first (:
