To enter a puppy into a show, 4-6 months, do I need to have the pup registered with USA ? I have one paper stating that pups under 12 months are exempt and another stating that all dogs are required to have registration.

No, the puppy does not need to be registered with USA under the age of 12 months. However, the puppy does need to have a tattoo No. and an AKC registration.

How about a CKC registration?

***He does not need to be registered with USA but I believe he does need a USA scorebook.*** The puppy doesnt need to have USA scorebook.. actually that scorebook is not needed till much later when the dog enters Titled classes(for the conformation shows anyways). You just need your AKC registration and I am not sure if CKC is accepted

..is there a place to reg. a dog with no papers at all? someone asked me that the other day and I just don't know. Is there? He bought a Doberman a few years back without papers and this dog is good. Any advise to pass along would be appreciated.

In the 4-6 month class you do not need any papers at all and the tatoos are not required until after 12 months also. You do need to have the parents numbers. Remember to have fun. Fun and experience is what the puppy classes are all about. Or should be anyway. lol There seems to be some confusion about working trials and conformation shows. You do not need papers to enter a trial, unless it is a GSD exclusive event. Even mutts can compete. You will need a scorebook. You must also be a memeber of the USCA to compete in their trails. I believe also, that USCA requires the dog to be registered with them for GSD exclusive trials. You do not have to be a member of the WDA to compete in their trials. For the working class USCA comformation show entry you need a scorebook with at least a SchH1 and AD, hip certification, 4 generation certified pedigree, and a tatoo that is also certified, as well as the dog having to be registered with USCA and a breed survey. Not sure if the dental certification is required. You, personally also have to be a memeber of USCA to enter. Any FCI paperwork is accepted by the WDA, including Canadian Kennel Club. All the other requirements are the same except the WDA does not make you personally register with their organization in particular, other than the dog needing AKC or FCI recognized papers. I could have forgotten something, but atleast it gives you a good overview of what is needed. Debby
