GSDtravels

by GSDtravels on 30 March 2013 - 00:03

This is a pretty long story, but I'll try to make it short.  I work in a pretty bad neighborhood and I was made aware of a dog living in a dump.  I got her rescued, for the moment and am working on finding her a loving home.  She's been used, abused and thrown away, yet she's sweet and grateful.  I'd tell the whole story, but I'm too tired.  I got these pictures of her today at the junk yard that took her in, temporarily.

Oh, gawd. It breaks my heart to see the defeated look in her eyes.  How heinous it is that our kind can break the spirit of their kind...it will likely take a little time, but when it happens, I look forward to seeing new pictures of her when the sheer joy in life that all dogs are born with is restored, and is visible again in her eyes. You did more than just a good deed for the week...this is one for the entire year. Brava, Travels, brava!

This one made me feel pretty good Hexe, because she deserves it.  She cowers when you lower a hand to pet her, but then licks that hand when it doesn't strike her.  I was feeding and watering her for a week and she knew it.  When I went to the junk yard yesterday, she immediately came to greet me, like she was really saying "Thank you!".  So very, very sad that any human being could be so cruel.

Okay, I am tired and I have to work tomorrow, but I have to at least tell you this part of her story.  Another business had a Lab as a guard dog, fence in, razor wire and all.  He told the junk yard owner that one morning when he came to work, his Lab greeting him and he saw her slink out of the gate.  He didn't know where she came from and went to his video. It didn't catch her getting in, but it did catch her and the Lab playing most of the night.

It appears she was used for breeding and possibly bait.  The scars could also be from fighting with wild animals, it's hard to tell.  There are some pretty big racoons, rats, muskrats and assorted other vermin down by the river and who knows how long she was fending for herself?  She follows the junk guy like he's a god, he rescued her from the trap crate (she had been impossible to catch, she'd circle around the railroad tracks and onto the mill road, down by the river, always staying a step ahead.  She's as smart as she is sweet, it's the only reason she survived.

Some are too far gone and better off being put down, but it really feels good when you see the gratefulness in the eyes of a dog who's gotten little kindness in her life.  She's a good soul. Cry Smile

If she "follows the Junk guy like he's a God"? Why are you trying to place her in another home and why isn't she with you now?

For cryin' out loud, Thomas, what are you suggesting, that she STOLE the junk guy's dog?

Bet you'll be getting up early tomorrow, too, so you can go shoot the Easter Bunny.

Thomas, I guess reading isn't your forte?  I cannot take in a dog right now, I was never looking to.  The junk man took her in temporarily, he cannot keep her, but will keep her safe until a home is found.  But then, that was in my initial post.
