Strauss, 2.5 weeks shy of 9 years

Nice to see a dog still active at that age. He looks like a German showline, or part showline anyway.
Do you know how his ears got so beaten up? Was he a rescue dog?

Strauss is aging well! And still working it looks like? Sunsilver, I think he had a hematoma. I remember seeing him with his ears up.

Here's my senior female, at 3 months past her 12th birthday. It was a hot August day in Algonquin Park. We'd asked someone to recommend a fairly easy hike we could finish in time for supper.
The supposed 'easy' hike involved climbing over numerous deadfalls and up and down steep, rocky slopes. In order to reach the lookout where this photo was taken, both my husband and I had to use mountain climbing techniques: searching out handholds in the rock, as well as footholds...the trail was THAT steep!
I was overheated and exhausted at the time the photo was taken, but Tasha still looks to be ready for more!
She's the dog pictured in my sig, too. We went grey together!

Lies, Strauss is indeed still working :) He will retire next year.
Sunsilver, at one time, both ears WERE standing. The flopped ear was caused by a hematoma last year. After three surgeries, I'm amazed it looks as good as it does! The other issues on the ears were caused by taping (other people insisting on getting his ears up...Mouse was my first GSD), and there is broken cartilage in that ear as well. I have had him since 8 weeks of age.
Strauss is half German show lines. The remainder of his pedigree is Euro and American show and Euro working

Both dogs look beautiful for "elderly" dogs!

He seems to be a big beautiful boy.

He is indeed :) He has his faults, as any dog does, but his character and work ethic are the absolute best. He'll be retired next year
