I have a 5-1/2 month old male pup who pees standing. Meaning he doesn't squat like most pups do. Other male pups I've seen squat also.

I'm use to seeing them squat and once they hit a certain age, their leg pups up to pee and no more squatting.

Since it's my first time seeing it, does it mean anything?

my 6 month old pees standing straight up as well, and always has...............he pees on his front feet a lot

LOL. Yeah, it means he doesn't make a big issue of peeing and didn't read the instructions on 'How a Pup Should Pee'.

Some males will lift their leg when only seven or eight months old. Others, if they are in close proximity to an older, macho male, may not hike their leg till two.
I have a Charik son here, six months old, who has been trying to dominate litter sisters into submission, since he was five months old, so that he can "breed" them :-0
I wouldn't be suprized if he doesn't start lifting his leg any time now. &;-)

My 11 month old pees like a horse (back legs stretched out, standing up).  He also takes as long as a horse to get it all out.

I think so many times when we only have 1 dog/puppy or maybe 2...We worry more about this and that...I think German Shepherds are pretty darn good about figuring things out for themselves...I used to worry more about how they pee or how they sleep or whatever...But I've found out that there's not much we can do about most things anyways...So just sit back and enjoy...

It's just like "Ball Drive"...I mean dogs are born with innate abilities...We can develop them to a certain extent...but to push too hard to make them something that they aren't is just silly...

For instance a male dog lifting or not lifting their leg to pee is just something NOT to worry about...I mean what are you going to do about it anyways...What we read into it is just us trying to figure them out...and I think we try too hard about things like that...
German Shepherds in particular all mature differently...So just relax and enjoy...

But Q Man, it is just not manly.   Lol..... Me too.  If the way Max pees is the worst of my problem, I am doing great.

Our 7 month old still pees standing up and in most cases, still manages to get his left front foot.  It could be a lot worse, he could be hitting himself in the face :()

Thanks All for the info.

Joan - LOL!  My other male squatted until around 10 months old and he stopped and started lifting his leg.  Never just stood and pe'd.  I thought all males squatted and then later ifted a leg.

Q-Man - Very true.  It isn't a big thing but I noticed it and it was my first experience with it.  I didn't know if there was more to it or not.  I have 2 other females and they naturally squat..lol.  I didn't know if it told me something about the pup or not.  No different than a puppy who is scared to take the stairs.  Not a trait I am fond of at all.  Had a pup at 4-5 months old I had to carry down the steps they were so afraid until i finally got tried and dragged they ass down.

LOL@Don.  It is funny to see.  It makes me nervous when he is in the house b/c when he is just standing im nervous that he needs to pee..lol.

Our male was intact up to 4 years of age.  He pee'd like that all the time - even up until he was 12.5 years old (when he passed on).  Never lifted his leg, unless (like joanro) mentioned, he was near another male - trying to show each other up (pee mail) or a female where he wanted to show her how masculine he was - hahahahaha.  Cracked me up.  Yeah, I agree with QMan, your pup will figure himself out whenever he's good and ready to.
