Tina Barber, AKA "Ma Shiloh" developed the Shiloh Shepherd by crossing several different lines of GSD with a GSD/giant malamute cross named Secret Samson Woo. (If you've ever owned a husky or a malamute, you will know what the 'woo' refers to!)

Throughout her life, she fought long and hard to get this breed recognized. However, she did not succeed, dying from lung cancer in 2011, but not before passing the torch to her daughter, Lisa. One of the biggest barriers to her achieving her dream were the rival registries that broke with the ISSR, and began doing their own thing. As Ma did everything within her power to keep them from getting their hands on her Shilohs, they soon found themselves backed into a corner genetically, and had to outcross. The logical outcross was to backcross the dogs to the parent breed, the GSD.

This has resulted in many people viewing the Shiloh as nothing more than a long-haired, poorly bred German Shepherd, even though the official ISSR breed standard makes it plain they are not:  http://www.shilohshepherds.info/issrShilohShepherdIllustratedBreedStandard.htm

There was a thread on here a few years ago about someone who had registered their dog as a GSD with the UKC, even though the dog clearly had ISSR Shilohs as ancestors. Now, Markobytes tells me a supposed Shiloh has crept into the AKC registry. I'll let him/her give the gory details.

Ma must surely be rolling in her grave...  Sad Smile

Very pretty breed.  To my untrained eye, they look kind of like a long hair collie with the german shepherd saddle back.

They come in smooth (stock coat) too, as well as just about any colour a GSD can be: black (quite rare) white, sable, plus black and silver or cream, and all the variations of black and tan (saddleback, bi-colour, etc.)

Posts disgustingly cute puppy pic....  Teeth Smile

Main difference between a Shiloh and a GSD:

They are larger: 26" min. for females, 28" (I think!) for males.
Both smooth (stock) and plush (long coat with undercoat) are equally acceptable.
All coulours are acceptable, including white and black
Ears are smaller and triangular (still a work in progress...)
Temperament is more mellow and laid back than the GSD, but they still make good protectors of the home.
Prone to sickle or hooked tails due to malamute blood (both are faults).
Their overall build is without exaggeration. Angulation is moderate, roached backs are considered faulty, toplines are fairly level, with withers being the highest point of the back.

I would love to know the details.
Despite complaints about AKC, they are pretty good about tracking the paper trail.
I don't see how this was slipped thru.

Markobytes has PMd me, and is unwilling to name names, but the long and short of it is the breeder in question has falsified paperwork before. So, as I suspected, it's definitely a case of fraud.

Here's another one, documented by Tina herself:

Must we bring the shitlos into our conversation? It was bad enough with the show/working issue. Now we bring up this abomination?

falsifying papers is certainly not limited to "shilohs". It has been done with titled dogs by some who would be considered pretty high up the food chain.

Y'know, harddawg, this thread was about to sink out of sight, due to lack of interest....

then YOU went and posted to it.

Let it lie. It looks like no one is much interested in the topic.

And sorry harddawg. (NOT). Seems you imposed yourself into our Shiloh conversation. No one called you in.
If you don't like the Shilohs, that's your perogative.
BUT, they are a breed of dog that, for the umteenth time, ARE NOT German Shepherds.
Tina Barber put her heart and soul into creating HER breed of dog, and I asked the question about them, and sunsilver obliged some info.
Like I said, no one called you into the conversation

I'm interested. Did anyone report it to the AKC?
