We retook the x-rays on my 14 mo old GSL bitch yesterday. Please take a look and give me your opinions. We have them set up for OFA but have not yet sent them in.

Questionable on the right hip. I'd guess the dog wont pass but maybe you'll get a lax vet that will pass with a fair?

As a GSD guy who also happens to be an orthopaedic surgeon, I would reshoot the xray. The right appears to be very subluxed but if you look at the xray, the pelvis is malrotated.Look at the iliac wings and how the right appears wider than the left, the tail and symphisis pubis don't lie atop one another, the obturator foramina (thebig holes just inside the hip joint on the pelvis are very different. All this means the pelvis is rotated and will make the hip appear worse than it probably is. Just my 2 cents.

You are right on Ipoguy, but its the left leg as its marked (it got me too...LOL). Besides the above mentioned it looks like there was quite a bit of pushing upward on the left leg to manipulate position, which in this case made the joint look more lax and not as deep seated as well. If one is able to adjust the picture in the head to proper position (3D rotation), the hips look good. With 14mo you will only get prelims, so why not wait till 24mo now?

Ha!Ha! I didn't even look at the marker as the standard is to have the Right on the left! All I said applies about rotation but the sides are opposite! I would think worth a redo rather than a bad rating. Also, seen some from funny ratings on hips that aren't that bad from OFA. I send mine to the SV and they do it at 12 months.

Was this the dog we were wondering about TV? Did the vet mention anything to that effect? I am not that experienced in spotting it, especially without more view of the spine.  That would account for the weird shape of the pelvis and difficulty positioning.

The right hip probably won't look as deep, but I think they would pass with proper positioning... fair to good depending how they look after.  If you aren't sending to the SV, then I'd be happy enough with these and wait until 2 to do them again and send to OFA.

On another note, what do you all think of these?  Male, 2 years, positioning is off and the vet re-shot but these are the only copies I have.  Second shot their wasn't as much laxity on the right, but what worries me is the shape of the neck and the flatness of the head.  Vet surprisingly thinks they could pass, but I didn't think so... now they have me wondering and doubting my initial opinions, lol.  What's your thoughts?

xray is very well positioned. the right (left on the screen) appears somewhat subluxed and indeed misshapen with a short femoral neck and some varus deformity. will depend on the reader of the film but I worry a little. For me I wouldn't worry and I would work the dog as they are not that bad. the issue of breeding or not is an entirely different conversation that I have very different opinions on.
