I just wanted to thank everyone for the support, messages, comments and leads during our difficult time with our lovely GSD and this dreadful horrible disease.

Charger passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, March 1st in our home, in the dining room floor.

I had faith that these treatments would help her along and let her live a few years. She did get better, she did improve but she was never back to her 100% self.
I never had the heart to put her down. I prayed that if she was to be cured, to let God do so, if not, to let her died in peace at home. I just couldn't find myself in putting her down, knowing that she might of had the chance of getting better in a few days, weeks or months.

She did get around these last few months to fetch her ball and run after it, but not with the great speed she had before. She did experience her first outing in snow.

Sunday, February 24 she quit eating but did not quit drinking water. I tried enticing her to eat with different foods. At the end, she wouldn't even eat her favorite peanut butter snacks. Wednesday of the week, I noticed her breathing got heavier through her nostrils. So on that Thursday I called our vet and explained what was going on. The vet scheduled us in to have blood drawn the afternoon of Friday, March 1st and then the results with an appointment on Saturday.

I think Charger knew something. She would often go outside and just lay by the door of my vehicle.

That morning, minutes before my 9 year old son was to board the school bus, he found her unresponsive in the dining room floor.

We buried Charger along with all her favorite toys in the corner of our acreage under a tree.

I wish that further research of this disease be made possible and find a cure. No pet owner/family and pet deserves to be put through this disease.

Thanks to all of you.

I wanted to tell you that Mindy's Derek died in January. The aspergillus disseminated to his spine. So sorry for both of you.

I'm so sorry for you and your family; I was also hoping you were going to be able to steal a few more good years for her with the treatment.  Four years old is just too young to have to say goodbye to her. I hope you find some measure of comfort in the knowledge that you did everything possible to help her beat this illness, and made sure she was comfortable throughout her time with you.  These fungal diseases scare the bejezuz out of me, because there's little, if anything, we can do to protect our dogs from these infections, and we don't yet have a fast, simple, highly effective and completely curative treatment for them, either.  It would be wonderful if there was at least a quick, easy and fast test available for this disease, so at we could ID the infection more readily and get treatment started earlier.  Perhaps if that sort of test had been available, Charger's infection would have been able to be detected sooner and she would have gotten the full benefits of the treatment. So very, very heartbreaking for you all.
