I placed my rescue dog two days ago. I checked the woman out, did a home check etc and it was so relaxing at her house. She seemed to really care.

When I placed Candy with her, Candy was calm, cool, collected. She has been one of the easiest rescues I have ever taken in from the shelter. She just fit in.

Well after two days the adopter calls and says she just cant handle Candy. She refused to buy a crate and said Candy was acting like she was on crack. I know part of the problem was the crate but MY GOD Candy was neurotic when she came back and acted like she was indeed on crack. It took a walk and some time alone for her to get back into the routine.

For the life of me, I cant imagine what happened that made Candy so crazy. The woman said they go for 2 mile walks a day etc etc. This obviously was not a good fit. I'm hoping to avoid this kind of person in the future so looking for behaviors from the woman I can be on the lookout for.

You will probably end up filing this under, "things I will never understand," but for starters, I would avoid anyone who refuses to buy a crate.

Chocolate, among other things..

Always have a 5 day "trial" period..

For what its worth, I placed a female once with a very nice home/woman, who also could not bear to use a crate..
The dog did not work out for her either..

Rescues sometimes need "tough love leaders", not fun room-mates.

Your probably right Keith. The woman came to me the next day and asked to get one from me. I offered to lend her a 500 Vari Kennel and she didn't want that one...she wanted my 48" wire crate. Well I dont lend those out in case I get another dog in or I don't get it back (which happens) so she decided to leave without one. Later that day I went through CL and sent her 4 links of crates for sale for like $80.00. She needed it right away so that wasn't a bad deal.

And Den Wolf good suggestions. Someone can always bring a dog back to me. I no longer give paperwork on a dog until the dog has been living with the family for about a week for just this reason.

I kinda suspect that the last sentence in Denwolf's post hit the
nail on the head, in explaining what happened with Candy.

Sometimes you just will never know what the problem was.  They each have their own personality,  so it could simply be a personality difference.  One of the Dobies I rescued I thought I just couldn't seem to find a proper fit for him anywhere he just would act up at every home we tried.  I figured out later he had already made his decision.  He had already found his forever home.  Mine.  And at that time between my own and other rescues I already had over 20 at the house.  It felt like my whole paycheck was going for dog food and vet visits.
