They gotta spend all that money they raise on something. Might as well build a nice new building, pay some more salaries, create a good and cuddly feeling so they can raise more money for themselves......er....ahhh..... I mean their cause. In the end, animals need a good home, period. I suspect this rehab place will euth. dogs just like they always have.

They want you to believe that they can fix all those broken animals.
Yeah they'll kill anything that contradicts their claims and yes it's all about money.

Um, guys, if this had been set up by an independent charity
rather than ASPCA, would you have welcomed the idea more ?
Doesn't seem too off -base a concept, to try to rehabilitate dogs
badly affected by puppyfarming or long periods in custody. At
least it probably means better attention being paid to who they
eventually rehome them with (where they do manage to do so);
too many shelters do not seem to do such a brilliant job of placing
dogs in 'good homes' ...
Battersea Dog & Cat Home, London, England, has had a similar
unit as part of their work for quite a long time now.

Hundmutter,
I do not believe in saving inferior damaged animals, it is not sound or ethical.

I see where you are going with that, perhaps there are many I would
end up euthanizing myself; but as degrees of damage will vary, it
may be relevant to give some a further chance. It is possibly easier
with some breeds than others.

I happen to have been involved with the rescue and rehab of the 167 Alaskan Malamutes mentioned in this article. We tried to get this guy out of the dog business for years, nothing worked until the HSUS and ASPCA got involved. They provided most of the funds and manpower to rescue dogs dogs that were living in a foot or more of feces, fighting for food, missing body parts. eating dead bodies of their kennel mates that either died from starvation or were killed in a fight. No I am not a AR person nor do I support the HSUS or the ASPCA with donations but if not for them more of those Mals would have suffered a cruel death. Dogs suffered and died from bloat, never saw a vet. Bitches whelped outside in blizzards, one of the worst abuse cases ever seen in the state of Mt if not in the entire country. Breeders who saw what was going on sat back and did nothing. The parent breed club and AKC did nothing. Finally pet buyers reported this horrible cruelty to the HSUS and for the first time in their lives, these dogs are being fed and loved. The ones that are going for ASPCA rehab were the most fearful of the bunch - this is a very resilient breed, had there been 167 GSD's living in that sort of environment, most would not have been able to have been rehabbed. Maybe some of these Mals won't make it, but at least they are being given the chance thanks to the ASPCA. This service in NOT a crock of shit.
Next time don't be so quick to condemn the humane societies before you get the facts or better yet, YOU work with your local rescue and don't turn your backs on animals that are being abused. The bottom line is - If we don't do it, the HSUS will.
BTW I would be happy to accept any donations to help cover the expenses that will not be paid by the HSUS or ASPCA. That is being paid with donations and fund raisers by residents of MT and dog breeders and owners of all breeds. There is no hope of getting restitution from Chilinski, he is broke and serving time. Some here must have read about it, it's been in the news for well over a year. We would be grateful for any help and I'll send you a receipt. PM me and I tell you what to do.

I cannot understand why anyone would not even want to consider giving these poor dogs a CHANCE of rehabilitation and a better life. If they can't be turned round, a gentle passage out of this world is still an option. But to write them off without a second thought .... I cannot understand that mentality. That is a 'crock'. If no-one ever stood up and tried to ever save anything what a sad and cold world we would live in.
