Are dogs required to be narcotized for SV x-rays?
Or is it just required that it is noted whether the dog was or wasn't?

From the UScA website..........

X-Rays for SV HD/ED evaluations

***EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY***

March 6, 2013

If submitting x-rays to the USCA Office for the processing of the HD/ED Evaluations, a letter from your veterinarian on his/hers letterhead stating the following, is now required:

  1. Confirmation from the veterinarian that he/she controlled the identity of the dog presented to them by means of verification of the tattoo and/or microchip number, dog's full registered name and registration number
  2. Confirmation from the veterinarian that the dog presented to he/she for x-rays was narcotized.
  3. Authorization (signature) from the owner that all information within the identification plate and within the veterinarian's letter has met their approval to be forwarded onto the SV Office in Germany for processing

**If the above information is not provided along with the HD/ED x-rays, they will not be processed**

I think you are going to have to call, maybe ask Bhall;  she speaks German to find out and converse with SV.??  Boy sure is unclear the way they have worded the info.  Good luck  Nan

The way it is worded it sounds like yes they do have to be sedated.

It definitely gives you a better x-ray....

Is this an SV rule or one set by USA.  Checking the WDA site it has not noted this as a requirement yet.

Have not seen anything from SV over here yet;  but I
would not neccessarily get wind of it early so take that
with the proverbial pinch of salt - I'm sure we'll find out
soon if it is the SV's notice rather than USCA's.

Can I just say I LIKE point number one,  that's a good
idea long overdue for formalizing.

Sedating to the point of relaxation for hip xrays should prove to be good for the breed although there will be a few dogs that won't pass and some will not get quite as good a rating as they would have if not sedated.

dogs always had to be narcotized for x-rays in Germany, it has been that way since I have been x-raying, my vet told me that all vets that have been approved by the SV have always had to narcotize the dogs coming in for official x-rays
