Sorry this may be lengthy...

Today I was at Walmart and I came across a guy that was selling some German Shepherds...I couldn't help myself..I had to go check em out..lol..Now I have nothing against anyone selling dogs at Walmart...usually they are from some sort of backyard breeding program but they just don't know any better.  Well as I made my way over the gentleman approached me and said he had pure bred German Shepherds with papers only for 350..I acted interested so that I could interact with the pups.   Mom was there and she seemed to be SL.  Not a big deal but pups were only 4 weeks old..I didn't want start a huge debate with the guy but he went on and on about how they come from a police dog lineage.  I was thinking to myself..."sure they do"...haha..Anyways...the papers that he was referring to was a print offs from this website of the mother and fathers pedigree.  He said that those were the papers..lol..He went on to say that his papers were better than AKC because they came with pictures...I was shocked...lol...I excused myself and went on home.....

That entire experience got me thinking about this...How hard would it be to make the database a legitimate resource for registering a dog...I ask because so many of us spend time on here and It is a good place to start when looking at hip/elbow and working titles...Now I know that there would be allot more involved than that ...but the way PDB list the pedigree its clean and neat and easy to read...So what if there where some checks and balances to ensure pedigrees that were entered were correct and information listed about specific dogs was accurate and then we could use it as official paper work...Just putting it out there...what do yall think..lol

Jay I do not think AKC would wear it for one minute, and you also have to
consider that a lot of dogs on here are not American-anything, so Oli would
have to be negotiating with e.g. the Brits and all the other European countries'
Kennel Clubs,  the SV itself ...

And in the eventuality would that not just turn PDB into another version of the
alternative 'kennel club registries'  [ Dog Lovers, etc etc]  with pictures ?

BTW  Is there really no way in the US of dealing with ppl who sell 4-week old
puppies out of cars at Supermarkets ?    Not saying the RSPCA here is great,
but at least they, and our Police, might be persuaded to come down like a ton
of bricks on this guy if he was doing it here;  and yes it happens and yes its
been reported and yes they have acted.  You do have animal welfare laws of
some form in the States ?

hund, we have animal welfare laws but their all bassed around OBVIOUS abuse...........thats y i laugh @ ppl when they get to bashing each other and calling animal police on ppl. your dog would have to be WELL below what should be for them to act, IE busted up, 60lbs under wieght living in shit, then still many times they warn u, give you time to clean things up then come back and check..............back on point i dint think theirs anything in place to stop a moron from selling pups that way......................................

Dont most ppl (though they may not know the magic #8) know 4 weeks is to young, i mean it u looked @ it wouldnt that turn u away?

Mario, animal control confiscates animals all the time in the Carolinas that are supposedly being kept in poor condition. When in reality, the animals are not underfed or being abused. It's a matter of flexing muscles and having rescues to sell up north. The people usually sign them over to prevent prosecution.
Not supposed to sell a pup under eight weeks old. But I doubt the 'authorities' would have done anything, even if jay had thought of complaining.

Jwalker-Oli would have to become the K-9 police.
He has pedigree listings here for numerous breeds.people would be coming like cockerroaches out of the woodwork to "register"their dogs.
I'm all for keeping the paper trail in effect, thank you very much.
And, I think anyone selling 4week old pups should have the pups and their dogs confiscated.

joanaro, if i was doing what i should as a dog owner, and luv my dogs like i do I AINT SIGNIN OVA SHIT, ill winl in court then sue your ass for false accusations, and displaceing my dogs, maybe  just thats me(i dont scare easily) but ppl in the right normally fight................in NC kept in good living? so whats reasoning do they provide for takeing ppl's dogs?

by joanro on 05 March 2013 - 16:03

No justice. Scare tactics cause people to sign over their dogs. 'authorities' over stepping boundaries.
The point is, 'they' have the power to confiscate someone's animals and prove their guilt later. In the mean time, a storage bill is accrued which a lot of people can't afford to pay, so they sign them over.

My sister was charged, and ALL her dogs were taken in Pa.,Because one puppy buyer wanted full AKC.
She,(we) fought tooth and nail to get the dogs back. It took nearly two years, but we won the dogs back.
Unfortunately, my sister died prior to the return of all her dogs, AND, some of her older dogs died IN THE CARE OF Philadelphia humane societyas the "shelter" refused medical treatment UNLESS my sister turned her dogs over to THEM.
My sister, and her dogs died with broken hearts.
