jax has long nails and we get them trimmed on a reg. basis but they grow long so fast. How often should we get them trimmed?

For me, there is no set time for trimming nails. I watch them and when they need it, I trim. Maybe once a month. As far as grooming, I brush my boy every day with a double sided shedding blade brush. His coat looks good and he enjoys the brushing. These guys have short coats so taking them to the groomer (for me) isn't needed. Giving a bath too often can remove oils from the coat. My Mal is an inside dog and doesn't get dirty where a both would even be needed. Good luck!

Use a dremel or dremel type nail grinder for nails.
I have one female that needs her nails ground every 5 days. If I let them go, then they can become uncomfortable for her in about 3 weeks. The others need their front and outside rear nails about every 2 to 3 weeks, depending upon the individual. I have tile throughout my house and they take frequent walks on the concrete sidewalks during the week too.
I enjoy this breed because the grooming is so easy. I use a leaf blower on my dogs each day - they absolutely love it! A lot of folks vacuum their dogs. I have several mals that are all inside dogs and I do this to keep the dust and hair level down in my house. I brush them every day with a soft human brush. I wipe out the inside of their ears with baby wipes about once a week. When I bathe them about twice a month, I use Palmolive with a touch of glycerin. Palmolive has a neutral pH and is not acidic like human shampoo. I just wash paws and rear end with soap. I use a rubber curry brush and lots of water to rinse the dirt and dander out of their coat. I have learned throughout the years, and especially after owning a GSD, that the more you strip the natural oil out of the coat, the more their body will work to get it back, and the more they will smell.
But I'm a DIY type person and have several dogs. To me, taking a malinois to a groomer is unnecessary.

I don't have a Mal, but I trim my dog's nails with a dremel every one to two weeks.
