Dawulf

Thursday and Friday we got a big snowstorm, and I've been meaning to get some pics of Jewel in the snow before it is too late, so Saturday I did just that.

Jewel LOVES the snow, and after her battle with pyo it was good to see her back to her happy golden self. :) After she got done rolling around in the snow she chased my half sister for a bit on the sled, and then proceeded to grab her leash in her mouth and race around and play tug with it with me just like she used to. I can't even remember the last time we did that... So happy to see her feeling good!!! She's been getting back into her toys too, so that is excellent. Jewel will be 13 in April... I can't believe it! Still seems like yesterday when she was a puppy.

Something I've noticed since her spay is that her coat has gotten super thick, and she doesn't have anywhere near as much feathering as she used to. That could also be the food change though. She's also gained a few more pounds than I would like.

Being a goof in the sun spot....

Playing in the snow....

There she is! My sweet old girl... I thought I'd share these with my PDB friends, espescially those of you who were so supportive throughout her illness.... thank you again!

[sniff!] Thanks, Dawulf.  I needed that today.

She looks fantastic!  Such a smile on her face, and in her eyes!  I was thinking of Jewel earlier this evening, as our local shelter had to rush a very sweet brindle pit bull mix to my vet's office last night--she's got an advanced pyometra, and was found lying in the middle of a snow-covered back road, too sick to even stand. After she receives a transfusion tomorrow, she's scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, and hopefully will make it through to a full recovery...it all made me think of your senior Golden Girl and your dedication to her, in comparison to the son-of-a-scumbucket who tossed this poor gal out on her own to die. Hopefully Paisley [the brindle pit bull mix] will fare as well as Jewel, both in beating the pyo and its effects AND having someone as dedicated as you come into her life.

I'm going to save these pictures of Jewel and add them to my collection of dog pics that make me smile on bad days. These definitely fit the bill for that!

Thank you for the compliments on us, Hexe... she is my Jewelzers, and theres not anything I wouldn't do for her. She has her good days and her bad days, but lately they've been good. I bought her some cheap squeaky toys after Christmas that she loved, and her new routine every night is, after her supper, to go grab her tennis ball and bring it to someone to wrestle with! Its so nice to see her feeling so good, and I hope that means she still has a bunch of good years left in her! And as for the pictures, that smile of hers is contagious isn't it? :)

Poor Paisley... Let me know what happens to her - after seeing what it did to Jewel, I wouldn't wish pyo on any dog. How could someone be so cruel as to throw her out to die... makes me sick! Get better soon sweet pup! I will say some prayers for her to pull through and find her forever home.

Must be a popular day for finding dogs though... this morning I came across a Japanese Chin running loose around the busiest road in the city (luckily this was before rush hour). I got out of my car and called him, and he walked right over so I scooped him up. His tag didn't have a phone number, and the address was about a 30-45 minute drive from where I found him, in another city, which just wasn't right. He looked to be professionally groomed just recently (his fur still had lines from being clipped and he smelled really foo-foo-y), and was in great health appearance-wise. Plus he was a sweetheart. I wanted to wait for the vets office on his rabies tag to open and try calling them to see if they could track his owner, or at least take him and see if he had a chip, but it was 4 am so I took him to the Humane Society. I felt so bad doing it, but he isn't listed on their site (and the poor cat dropped off not long before him was), so I'm guessing his owners got him! Happy ending for the sweet little dude! I just wonder how he got all the way up here.

Maybe someone stole him, then thought it was too much
trouble and dropped him ?

Great pics of Jewel, a happy old girl !
Yes btw the coat changes sound fairly typical of those
that can happen after spaying.

Dawulf you are an amazing photographer!

Jewel looks absolutely wonderful, and so deleriously happy.  Like Hexe, I too felt I really needed something like this to lift my spirits just now, only a dog could do it though, just what I needed, thank you Jewel.....for giving me a smile when I needed it most.

Wow love the photos. She is a beautiful girl. The Retrievers have something extra beautiful about them, especially the seniors.
Enjoy her :)

I agree. I'm a shepherd person all the way, but because of her I will always have a soft spot for Goldens, and I could very easily see myself getting one in the future. They are just such happy dogs... so in love with every thing! Jewel really is the epitome of the perfect Golden in my opinion. Super sweet and happy, but she can be protective, and if she doesn't like someone you know they are bad news!
