We made the decision to set free our sweet girl, Shelby, yesterday. We had a hospice vet come out to our home and she helped Shelby make a very peaceful dearture from this world. Words can not express the pain and loss I'm feeling over losing my incredible, sweet, courageous girl. She was one in a million.

Many here know about Shelby, my long coated GSD rescue that was diagnosed ith DM in January 2011. We tried every  treatment available, including stem cell therapy, Dr. Clemmons protocol and an ALS clinical trial drug to slow the progression, as well as other therapies to help her quality of life, such as acupuncture, laser therapy, chiropractics and physical therapy. We fought the battle together, but as everyone knows, no one ever wins the battle against DM. Shelby was only 7 or 8 years old.

Shelby was probably the most loving, sweet dog I've ever known, with such a soft and gentle spirit, yet very determined and brave. When we adopted her it was clear she had a bad beginning in life,  but with time, love, patience, fairness and consistency she became very trusting and eventually became an incredible therapy dog. She has brought so much joy Into the lives of many people, both young and old, over the years and she made a difference in this world.

Rest in peace sweet Shelby girl. I know your life was cut short, but you couldnt have been loved more. You became my life over the past couple years and it was a privelege and blessing to care for you. You richly blessed my life and i learned so much through this journey with you. We were two hearts beating as one and we will be together again. I'll be looking for you when I cross over, beautiful girl. In the meantime enjoy the thrill of having a body that is healthy and whole. Run fast and free sweet one...

I am so sorry.  She was truly the best dog ever. God bless you for taking such wonderful care of her and helping her cross over peacefully when it was her time.

Lost a GSD to DM myself many years ago. I know how much it hurts.

You were so close to Shelby that you might be able to see her in brief flashes now and then. Sounds crazy but it happens. She can run like the wind now and you might be able to see a bit of that.

My deepest sympathy starr. It is wonderful that you took such excellent care of her and helped her peacefully go on to wait for you.
I have complete faith we will be reunited with those who brought so much love with them.
