This weekend Bravo got his BH.
We are working on retrieves, sendaway and tracking now.....
He will be getting OFA's next month.
He the third dog I've BH'ed and (out of 4 tries), and by far the most fun to work with.
Anyone have tips on quelling the pre-trial jitters?

Congrats on your BH. Friend of mine has his coming up next weekend with his young dog. They suck all the confidence out of you, don't they? I'm that bad, i'm nearly an Imodium junkie. Lol

We suck the confidence out of ourselves.
The judge, Carla Griffith (UScA SV), was wonderful, she made us feel at ease. We went on the field, and did our introduction. Judge Carla gave a big smile.........my stress was reduced, Bravo realized it at once, relaxed and came out of his basic heel position, walked up to the judge and leaned on her... we both chuckled and she gave him a big huge body scratch...... Yes, I know points off, but she knew what we both needed. I called him back to heel and we were good to go.
A little lessons learned;
It was chilly and I wore my husband's Carhart jacket, just before going onto the field, I unbuttoned it. Well every time Bravo got into a good focused heel, prancing and looking at my face, the coat hit him in the face and he backed off. I just didn't understand why he's heeling was so flat until a friend told me what happened. I should have kept it buttoned or worn a better fitting jacket.

Congrats- I don't know that I will ever be able to do it. My dogs can. It is totally me.
I went totally blank when I got out on the field. It was terrible for "my dog".
There are a few here who witnessed it. Don't think I can ever go through that again..
Good for you and your dog.

kitkat,
I practiced the pattern about a half million times without my dog...so when I'm on the field, its autopilot, except for forced smile.
In BH, the judge is on your side, he/she wants you to pass!
You CAN do it.........Just remember the judge IS your friend..

Congrats! It is so rewarding when all the hard work pays off.
As for the case of the jitters... not sure what to say...lol. I have done 8 BHs and still get the jitters right before I go on the trial field. The last Bh I did (Dec of last year) with Xena was the best one I have done. So I think to more you do it the better off you will be.
CONGRATS again!

Sometimes trying to remember what you are doing takes the pressure off the dog
Lets them get on with the job!
