Since no one else is being helpful on here, here is a link to a site with lots of information on "off colors" including FAWN, which is what you get when the dog is genticly both BLUE and LIVER. www.bluedogs.8m.com

There are breeders out there who just love the colors (like my husband) who are not in it for the money. I saw some where that some one in CA sold a blue pup for $4500 just because it was "rare"! No health tests there I am sure! But my husband and a few others have the colors just because they love them and want others who want those unusual colors to be able to have healthy dogs. He hasnt had a litter yet but before he does his bitch has to pass all the OFA tests (not JUST hips and elbows) and has to have some working titles (his requirements, not the breeder's).  So there are people out there trying to make a difference, you just have to look around with your eyes OPEN!

BTW: GSDfan is right. Like GSD dwarves, I personally have only met ONE blue or liver GSD that didn't have at least one major health issue discovered before reaching full maturity. I'm sure a more few healthy ones exist, but I haven't met them yet. That's why they are so often culled at birth in Germany.

Liver and Blue & Longhair Oh My!

Liver and Blue & Longhair Oh My!

No GSD is a bad color, he's still a GSD, those colors pop up sometimes by accident or are
purposely bred, sounds like Maneateroh, is smart enough to do the necessary health checks.
I don't get offended if someone does not want a pup from me for some reason or another,
but I do remind them to make sure the adults have been certified free of major defects and or
diseases.    And meet the parents to check out temperaments.

I myself once owned a very very healthy WHITE  Yes, WHITE GSD, best friend I ever had!
This is Kane I trained him for years, but never took him to a real show for OB, here he is at 11 years old
He got a qualifying score in Novice B obedience, we had fun that day........
