I am sure this has been beat to death, but I am confused on a point. When an imported dog comes in with pink papers and the SV bescheinigung, does the new owner have to first send off paperwork and register the dog in their name via the SV? Then send to AKC?

No, The beschenigung is the SV transfer of ownership. Deal with the AKC once you have this and the pedigree.

Okay, so if the importer has his name in the bescheinigung, I'd just add my name and then send this to the AKC? Or is it not that simple?

A similar thread was raised before and you need to tell the other forum members about the export country if other than Germany and if ownership is directly transferred from the previous owner to you.

if there is a bescheinigung it is Germany, also that the dog was not directly imported to him it was imported and then he baught the dog from the importer. i did this but with my czech dog the AKC lead me through what i needed to do. also NEVER send original papers to AKC send a copy of the pedigree.

The AKC foreign registration form has a place where the importer just signs as the bescheinigung is in their name and then signs the form to you.

I recently imported an SV pink papered male from Spain, and just wrote to the Spanish registry to order his export pedigree and certificate of transfer of ownership, will see if that's all I need to get him AKC registered!
