I am wondering if anyone has used Toltrazuril for the "prevention" of coccidia, and if so, "does it work", in what dosage was it given, do you give it straight, mixed.....?
Anyone with ANY thoughts or knowledge of this stuff.
It will be Mgreatly" appreciated.

I guess not many have tried it.
Well, I. Am going to give it a shot. My pups will be 3 weeks on the 21st, so I am going blindly into this venture.
These is very limited "useful"info out there, but if it works the way they claim it does, it could be quite a valuable med tto have on hand.
Less of any treatment is the better road, I am thinking anyway.
I have dealt with coccidia before and it is so ttough for the pups.
Prevention is my goal. At least I did not find bad info about it, so....here goes a shot in the dark.

It is the generic form of baycox and unlike albon which doesn't kill coccidia, baycox does. The dosage is .1ml per lb of weight. Note that it is .1, not 1. Or 1 ml per 10 lbs of weight. It's very effective if you have an ongoing problem with coccidia.

I used it once on 3 week old puppies and got a bunch of sick puppies after that... we've never had a coccidea problem here (we used it prophylactically) and we wont use it again. I dosed at 0.1ml/lb

The last two GSD's I purchased from large kennels both had coccidia. I have never dealt with coccidia in a litter of pups, so have tried to read up on it. I ran across a product called Marquis. Has anyone tried it?

Yes, I've used it. My vet had a compounding pharmacy make me up a bottle for about $60 that treated 3 litters. I like to use it once on the pups around the age of 5 weeks. Marquis is very similar and can work, as well--just depends on whether you're willing to pay for the large amount that comes in the horse med.

Well let us know how it works for you kitkat! Can I ask you where you ordered it? and did you have to have a Rx for it?

by BlackthornGSD on 19 February 2013 - 03:02
Here's the dosage from my vet:
Ponazuril suspension 100mg/ml
Give 1 ml per 10 pounds 1x a day for two days.
(Shake well before use. Refrigerate.)
The compounding pharmacy was Diamondback Drugs -- and it was by prescription only.
