?? about airports... HELP please ! - Page 1

Hey all you all know we have a No ship policy, However if someone was willing to fly here and pick up the dog, then I don't consider that shipping. What airlines will allow you to "carry on" a puppy in a kennel or as close to that as possible anyway ? Any help is very appreciated, my potential buyer is from NY and seems really really nice, I like the fact they have had sheps before, and have a good knowledge base, and the fact they are willing to travel from coast to coast litterally to meet with myself and my dogs. shows alot of dedication in my opinion. Do any of you have any suggestions.

If the puppy is going to be carried in the cabin with the new owner,any airline is likely fine. I would be more concerned with the type of equipment they were flying on and choose a larger plane with a direct flight. Remember, only one animal per cabin is the general rule last I heard so the airline needs to know this when booking.

Some "low cost carriers"(Southwest Airlines immediately comes to mind) do not accept pets onboard(or in the cargo area), period. Most mainline carriers accept pets as long as the pet container will slide "underneath the seat in front of you"(no exception to this requirement). You must contact the specific carrier for required documentation, such as health certificates, ect. The pet must stay in the pet carrier for the duration of the flight, and not taken out to show everyone how cute he is, or regardless of how much he whines. Pet carry ons are restricted to domestic flights only and some carriers prohibit pet carry ons in first class. All these questions and others need to be asked by the person buying the ticket and doing the flying. Stephen

I'm one of those people who has flown out to pick up my pup from the breeder (I don't like them traveling without me).I also travel with my show cats. The problem that I ran into was that the puppies were too big to fit under the seats in the regulation carriers. The cats(I have Maine Coons) are better at "squishing" under the seat,than the puppies are,even though some of the cats are heavier than the puppy.The dogs have traveled underneath but I have made myself a total pain in the butt with all the people I came in contact from the checkin right on up to the captain of the plane I'm on. I've made sure that EVERYONE knows I have a dog on board, and I check with everyone that they are exactly where they're supposed to,and on the plane with me.

flygirl55-- Some of my immediate family moved out to the West Coast and when I would go visit them, I always took my pets. SGBH is correct. I could carry my cat onboard with me as long as he went under the seat. During the flight, I managed to take the cat out and lay him on my lap (under a blanket), trying to hide him. I got away with this, but I had sedated him. The dogs were another matter. No sedation. Totally nervewracking. I would always try for a nonstop flight--but a couple of times had to change in Denver and Chicago. I'm in NY. I always watched to see that my dogs were loaded on the next plane. Once, I caused quite a commotion in Denver. They wanted me to board the plane, but I could see the kennels still on the ground. I stood there, demanding my dogs be loaded. The dirty looks I received from passengers were awful. When I got to Portland, my dogs were there, but another passenger's dog wasn't. I can't even imagine what she went through. It's been years since I went to visit family out West. Now, I make them come to me.

LMH - I hear you on the dirty looks from other passengers! I had them pull my 7 week old puppy off the plane! It was Feb. and I was bringing a pup back from upstate NY(it was 20 degrees out). We were flying a puddlejumper to Pittsburg. I asked about heat where he was and was told by the crew that it had a lightbulb??????? I held up the plane while I had him taken off.Dirty looks doesn't BEGIN to describe what they did! But I wasn't risking having a "pup-sicle" when I got to Pitts. I would do exactly the same thing. And as I write this, my big handsome boy is looking at me..that's worth the grief!

I hear ya Yellow. I used to get the worst looks flying with my daughter when she was a baby. I knew these people were thinking that little brat is going to scream and cry the whole way. She never did. At the end of the flight I would get smiles from the whole cabin.

yellowrose,no offense intended,but if the puppy stinks you deal with it like a grown up.Like if a baby stinks or cries. noone likes that but if it happens so what?

BUT U ARE TALKING ABOUT A HUMAN DAUGHTER ? RIGHT PEOPLE CAN TOLERATE TO SOME EXTENT A HUMAN POO POO SMELL AND SOME CRYING BUT A DOG UNDER A SEAT CRAMMED IN A SHOEBOX SOFT CRATE FULL OF PEE PEE AND POO POO AND SCREAMING FOR WATER AND FOOD AND SCARED TODEATH AS WHY IM IN THIS 1X2 SPACE ALONE AND MY HEAD IS SPINNING LET ME OUT OF HERE I REALLY DONT THINK AIRLINES WILL ALLOW THIS VERY LONG IF THEY EVEN DO A PUP HAS TO BE 8WEEKS OR 10WEEKS DONT THEY?
