My 4yr old intact female Labrador had emergency surgery to remove infection induced Struvite stones. She is on Hills perscription Urinary c/d. right now till the 35lb. bag is gone. After this I was told she needs to be on a maintance food. She should be coming into heat the end of March & we will breed. I was told the food she is on is not good for pregnant or lactating dogs & I should put her on puppy food. I am concerned straight puppy will really pack on the weight being a Lab. Can anyone suggest a brand of Adult food & a puppy food later in her gestation? I was feeding her Royal Canin Adult Maxi then would add their puppy food at the end. Protien, Magnesium & Phosphorus levels have to be low but high enough for the pregnancy.
Thank you for your help.

I just had a mastiff go through this surgery and honestly I'm not sure that I would breed her this cycle. How long has it been since she had the surgery? What kind of food was she eating before you had the surgery done? Why would you consider feeding a puppy food?

Surgery was done Feb. 22nd. The vet said she would be fine to breed by the end of March & it was the vet who said to feed the puppy food when I asked what to do.
