Sorry, I don't know how to post a shelter site  for this girl. But above is the link to her posting on the Lewis/Upshur Co shelter page. She is very very pretty. . . in my opinion may already be spayed as shows no sign of ever having nursed puppies. She was an owner surrender from a man who just kept her to watch over his property and left her in an empty barn a lot of the time ... she's extremely friendly and loving with people. She's not been able to get any exercise and has been in a small run and quite unmannerly right now. . . . Very high energy and very high small prey drive. She does have an ear tattoo but it's difficult to see clearly without taking time to clean the ear . . .  and  since she was an OS the shelter has no need try to figure out who her breeder was. . . Does not do well with small dogs or cats. . . definatley . She was sharing a run with a lg male GSD when I arrived and they did fine together. ALos has shared run wiht male Aussie with not problem. . . Does have resource guarding with her food around other dogs, but she arrived at the shlter half starved, so food was at a premium where she came from. . .  The shelter she's in is extremley small, 16 runs, and takes in dogs from two counties. It is a kill shelter. She would be best suited for an experienced GSD or lg dog owner because of her high energy and lack of manners at present. . . .

If anyone has called the shelter or given consideration to adopting this girl, Thank You. West Virginia has no GSD rescues. Even if they did dogs of this nature are not usually taken in by rescues. She appears to be of import show/working line breeding primarily. . . High energy and high drives.  Exercise may settle her some, but she shows intense small prey drive and high food drive. Most rescue adopters are looking for dogs of moderate energy level for companion and pets that can 'play well
with all other 4-legged family members. . Not one to run out and eat the neighbors cat or toy dog or drag 'mom' half way down the sidewalk on their morning walk
or require 50 laps jogging around the block to take her edge off... It's not her fault. She didn't ask to be left alone ... she loves people. It's  not her fault she was deprived of food, nor well socialized with other dogs. .. She is ever so deserving of getting a loving home with someone to love her and understand her nature and show her some guidance. It's heartbreaking to see a beautiful dog like this lose their life in a shelter thru no fault of her own.

She sure is a beautiful girl! Can't someone at least pull her?

I have tons of room here, and am only 8 hours away by car.

Sunsilver, what state do you live in? I'd be glad to help get this girl to you if she needed to come in my direction   . . . I don't know you but am trusting since I see you've been on this forum for a number of years...But it would require others to help. . . the shelter she is in is 130 miles north of me!  There's a pull fee involved;501c3 rescues can pull for $10.. I believe the shelter offers some transport assistance north of them to Hagerstown area. . .8 hours isn't long at all.... Can anyone else help ????

I am in Ontario, Canada, not the U.S. I own a small boarding and grooming kennel. I have 2 adult GSDs, a  11 yr. old WL male and a 6 yr. old American/German SL female. I am doing schutzhund with the female. She's probably medium drive, but has very high ball drive (sleeps with the ball sometimes!)

I also have a cat, but I think that can be worked around. My male nearly killed my cat the first time they were introduced, but within a month they were best friends, and he became quite depressed when the cat was run over by a car!

If socialization fails, I have enough space to keep them apart. I have both indoor and outdoor kennels for both cats and dogs!

Yeah, 8 hours isn't that big a deal. I drive 7 hours to my mom's place in Quebec a couple of times a year.

Houw much is the pound fee?

Oh gosh, my oldest girl (german working/show line) came from St Catherine Ontario!! Alpenhof Kennels. . . I love her to death and she's been a great girl and so much fun to work with over the years. Of course she's retired but still loves ot get out and do obedience work just for the 'fun' of it!! Anyways, I think the shelter fee is $75 which includes spaying. . . I personally feel this dog has already been spayed!!  I seriously doubt anyone would have gone to the trouble of confining her twice a year while in season. . . they didn't do anything else for her. No indication of having nursed puppies.  So don' t know if the shtler would charge a lower fee..   I really feel with getting some exercise she will settle down some. .I have sent you my email address. .. thank you for caring about her . . .I have video of her I'm going ot see if I can crop a bit and post. ..

The more info, the better!

I wonder if the previous owners had papers? It would be nice to know what her pedigree is. (Would give a better idea of what to expect temperament-wise.)

Her owner who turned her in I doubt would be of much help but who knows, the shltr mg may be willing to ask him. . .I don't  know if she would or not but would ask..." Aaa" does have a tatoo but it's hard to decipher without cleaning and trimming of hair...we both looked at it but couldn't figure out much. Doubtful the shelter would spend much time figuring out the tatoo esp since she was an OS.

I'm going to insert the Utube link for the video. .. please excuse the poor quality!! She is shown making contact with the shelter lady's Irish Setter, male, who she'd 'met' when she first arrived. . . they initially did OK but Aaa quickly jumped the Setter in the office that day over a piece of food in the trash. . .and apparently she has decided she still doesn't like him ! You can hear the result of their re-introduction. LOL  Attempts to introduce her to a small passive beagle were along the same lines. Aah spotted the beagle on lead a good ways off and remained intently  honed in on her as she practically pulled me down the hill to get at her. Not a good meeting, and the little beagle was OK, just scared.  But seeing her 'visit' with the all the other dogs thru the runs she appears social and non threatening. . . no cage fighting or aggressiveness shown thru the wire. Doubt that would be the case with many of them if they were out together. The adult (around 1yr old) male GSD she was in the run with (as of that day) got along very well with her. . .he himself wasn't showing much in the way of social skills when he met others! . . . I've assessed a lot of shetler dogs and can;t reacall any being so good and non-aggressive meeting dogs thru the wire but turning assertive towards them when they meet nose to nose. .. may just be stress . . .I don't know. ?
