x-rays of a 4 year old GSD male
What do you think about them,I know the positioning isn´t the best but I think it should be difficult to evaluate these hips even though.

Why do you find these hips dysplatic Nans?
by Nans gsd on 04 February 2013 - 16:02
Right side of our screen (probably left hip) very shallow and unless that is a shadow not well seated in the socket either. Right hip (our left screen) look possibly OK, hard to tell exactly from this positioning, but for 4 years old?? So sorry

Over all head is well seated with over half of the femoral head well seated no wear . I say OFA Good or A1 .

once again it is not the hips in question, but the ability of the vet to xray the dog.
overexposed & improper positioning. :(
the hips, themselves, do not look bad. i would find another vet. i would not send
this film to ofa.

Get a better x ray. Hips look good. But who knows from this. I always look first on the gap between ball and the acetabulum ( socket) and how far the gap is of constant width and how wide it is. that looks good on this xray to very good especially on the hip on the left side. One thing I'll say with certainty; this dog will never have any problems with his hips. .

Thank you all for your responses. The male isn´t mine,he belongs to a friend of mine.
Nans,it´s the quality /better said lack of quality/ of the photo that may cause it to look the left hip more shallow.Actually, more than 60 percent of the hips is in the socket both left and right.
I agree the positioning should be much better. In my opinion it is the positioning that causes the gap between ball and socket look a little bit wider on the left hip Hans mentioned.
I told my friend that with the correct positioning the dog should get FCI A stamp / SV A1/ but I wanted to hear also other people opinions, more people, more details.

They are deep seated enough IMO but I am leary of the spaceing to one side of each and feel they should be rounder and tighter fit to the socket. I am wandering since this is a 4 year old if it is wear and lack of tissue?
