After going thru a heartbreaking week with my best friend and her Yorkie having seizures. I want to look into a policy for  my boy. It seems more complicated then    ..   my own  MVP. I have only the company the AKC sends info on. Any advice would be welcome. Its something I want to have and never want to have to use it.

Tried to post an answer to this and for some reason it posted as a new thread = Missing Title...if a moderator could remove that I'd appreciate it.

I have Pet Plan insurance for my GSD and 2 Malinois. http://www.gopetplan.com/

Pet Plan does not cover "normal" veterinary care such as vaccinations, heartworm protection etc.  Pet Plan does cover all hereditary, congenital and chronic conditions – including cancer, diagnostic testing, prescription medications, non-routine dental treatment, MRI, CAT Scan and ultrasound imaging - for the life of your dog.  It covers those "unexpected" vet bills/injuries/diagnosis.  I've had one claim since having the insurance - for an ACL injury to one of my dogs...they covered everything to include aqua therapy.  I hope to never need the insurance again...but I like the piece of mind I get from knowing it is there if we need it.

I have Petplan also and they have been wonderful.  From the time I submit a claim it usually takes about two weeks to receive a check.  Nikki has EPI, IBD and Atopy so her care is not cheap.

There is another company that people seem to be happy with but I don't know much about them:  http://trupanion.com/

My vet recommended Trupanion but I went with Healthy Paws after doing research as they cost about the same and the latter has an annual deductible rather than per occurrence.

I also have healthy paws and I have been pleasantly surprised. My claims have been processed usually the same day and I would get the reimbursement check couple of days later. Also the annual deductible vs occurrence is very helpful.

Trupanion was my choice The deductible is per CAUSE not occurence as someone else stated. My dog needs ACL surgery in December meets her deductiblle no matter how long her rehab therapy continues it is covered. Other companies do the per year deductible which would mean meeting 2 deductibles in that scenario. Yes I have the potential for multiple deductibles in a given year so if she had ACL injury and then cancer I would have 2 deductibles but then I would have continuing care for those conditions for the remainder of my dogs life. I would also check out premiums and if they are based on entry age or attained?

I thought Obamacare  covers pets?, is that not so. How unfair...It covers 12 million illegals, contraceptives for christians ?, children under 26, dont pets deserve proper medical care ?...the 1 % must pay their fair share.
