I have just about ran out of deer meat for the year.  I am interested in feeding beef or chicken for the rest of the year.  Where do you guys get your meat/scraps?  I have called called butcher shops with little or no luck.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Here is a tip we learned: You get the best deals and sometimes freebies when you ask the butcher in person. Teeth Smile

Smart & Final for beef brisket @$2.35/lb;  Chicken thighs (skinned and boned) a case of 40 lbs for about $55.00.
Chicken necks skinned and free range (Harmony farms) $2.00/lb which is a little pricey but come in 5 or 10 lb bags frozen and ready to thaw and serve.  No fuss no muss.  Found the more I have to cut, chop and deal with the meats the less I want to feed raw.  JMO  But if you want to use leg quarters with the skin and bone which I did for a while but was having to cut and chop for my 14 year old girl as quarters were too big;  found quarters for about $.70 per pound at WalMart fresh so that was not too bad.  You have to shop though and I am talking about So. CA.  Some butchers run when they see raw feeders;  some are OK with it.  I get chicken feet, beef heart and beef liver, pork necks and other weird meats at my local Major market (Fallbrook) and they seem pretty reasonable, sold me a whole 5 lb. heart for a good price was a mess to deal with though.  UGh.  Also have turkey parts, and some exotics??  Not too cheap though but I have not asked them to chop or grind for me.??  Not sure if they would.  So far those are the best prices I can find around here.  HOpe this helps,  Nan

Of course I watch for meat sales, beef, chicken, pork, and do get some ground meats also.  If you buy whole chickens it is usually cheaper and you get the offal also which can be fed.  That is probably your best price but again y ou do have to cut it up.  Ugh.  Mess with too much.  Putrid.  Especially in the AM.  Sick
