My friend has a 4 year old 5lb yorkie. He had a seizure at 1am , she took him to er vet. They took blood said his liver and thyroid were abnormal. She took him home and at 5 am he had another seizure.
She took him to a neurology specialist who did a complete exam. Said he needs a fasting bloodtest, fast 12 hours eat 2 hours later, then take more blood. then an ultrasound to check his liver. After that MRI and spinal tap. Has anyone had the same problem? She just moved into a new home the carpets were cleaned and rock salt was put on driveway and walkway wonder if that could have had anything to do with it?

Chances are her 5 pound yorkie has a liver shunt. Carpet and rock salt i seriously doubt. i've seen a bunch of seizer yorkies, most are under the 6 lbs mark. This is the price people pay for wanting a "Tea Cup" yorkie. And yes liver shunts can become a problem as they get older. Not sure why.
Surgery may fix this or he may not be well enough to survive it. Without much more info i'm just guessing.
Hopefull her vet can help the little dog.
Best of luck

I used to also have some Yorkies, and yes they, as a breed, are prone to seizures, especially in certain lines. so sorry,, hope the dog is OK

seems like if it were a liver shunt, it would have had problems before 4 years had gone by. I would look first at anything toxic the dog could have ingested - certainly it wouldn't take much for a 5 lb dog to ingest a toxin to be a big problem. I have chihuahuas and keep hydrogen peroxide on hand in case they eat anything I'm not sure of - I make them vomit immediately if they do eat something I'm suspicious of. salt made to melt snow is very toxic - even if a tiny dog got some on his feet and licked it off, could cause big problems.
hope the little guy feels better soon, and the vets can figure out what's wrong.

Sorry Pat, I just seen your PM.
I have several yorkies, most under 5lbs, a couple only 2lbs and sorry, but size does not dictate health issues. Just like Shepherds, I believe it is more the lines. It's what's in the genes that dictate illness.
My littlest yorkies are healthy as can be and have never had a seizure.
The biggest problem with tiny little dogs is their teeth.
I hope your friends yorkie makes out good. Let me know.
