My pup Beau naturally gives a high five as a greeting, very often. I want to make it a command.... Any simple steps to help me get Beau to do it on command would be appreciated. I just try to have a treat reward handy and say Hi Five, at the same time.... but I'm sure there is a better way.

Dakota says "hi" in the sit position and "high 5" being a jump up....she's always done it naturally, everytime she did it I'd just associate the word with the action and treat her. Not sure if it's right or wrong, but that's what worked for me.

If he's already doing it naturally, all you have to do is associate the command with the action by saying the words at the appropriate time.

Wicca has learnt, Paw, Hi five and that has now shaped into 'the bear' but she's not quite got 'bear' on command yet.

I taught that to my golden and when he got the hang of it , I could say "5" and he would put one foot up, "10" and he would do the other foot. He could do it back and forth then would bark at me when he wanted to stop.

I could not believe it, but I got the big camera out, then I put Beau in a sit... (see how sloppy it is, lol). And put my left hand up and said, "High Five"... and hot diggetty, he pummeled me! LMAO... I am actually proud I got this shot! OMG! He gave me a welt on my palm! I am so happy!
