Hello all,

Just wanted to check if anyone of you had a chance to use and feed ORIJEN FREEZE-DRIED FOODS.
This is I guess new product on the market, so I wanted to know if its worth switching from dry kibble Orijen to this for GSD.
Please share your thoughts and experience (if any).

Have not used it although I think it sounds pretty good;  like the Freeze dried idea have used Ziwi Peak before.  Only thing I can see is they are putting a lot of different proteins in the formulas;  sometimes that does not work for certain dogs and the latest written by the Dr. Becker expert on raw is to use one protein at a time.  Not sure if that is going to fly as I feel successful raw is about variety along with other things of course, but maybe variety of same proteins.  not sure.

I have also used The Honest Kitchen formulas, my fav's are in this order are:  Preference (you have to add meat);  Love (beef & potato formula);  Zeal - fish (4 different fish) but I also added some ground meats of difference sources, beef, turkey, pork, or whatever else I felt worked.  So there you go, I have added all sorts of proteins before and seemed OK.  Kind of expensive though but I liked the idea the vit/minerals are already added in.

We'll have to wait and see how the Orijen works for everyone, sometimes takes a while to catch on though.  Nan

I have been asking where I purchase my dogs' kibble and the freeze-dried apparently is not available in the US, yet.   Cant' go to Canada and bring it across the border, either.  Sad Smile

I really loved using ZiwiPeak as a training treat when Bosco was a small puppy; the issue is that it is hideously expensive ($9+ CDN per pound). I use freeze-dried foods (usually Smack and K9 Natural) when we are on hiking vacations due to their light weight and convenience. I'm so not backpacking in bear country in hot weather with a bag of raw meat! But feeding freeze-dried foods can get really expensive fast.

The feeding directions aren't clear to me on the Orijen website:
"For each 5kgs/11lbs of additional body weight feed 1 1/2 additional medallions daily.". Does this mean for a 93 lb Bosco that I would have to feed a minimum of 13+ medallions per day? (I find I always have to feed more than the suggested amount.) Whoa - it seems like I would go through a lot of bags of food.

I am really not sure on the price, could not find a local store that carried it yet.  Not sure where the OP is from, but  maybe  they can shed some light.  Nan

I'm pretty sure that my local pet store (in SW Ontario) carries the new Orijen products so I'll check tomorrow. I looked last week at the new Orijen freeze dried treats.

Hi all again. I'm from Alberta, Canada.  Price range here is between $7.50 and $8 per treat bag.

Do you know how much the freeze dried food is? Unfortunately, my pet store has the treats but not the freeze dried food (yet ...it's coming).
