Hello, I would like some opinoins about buying an adult shepherd. I saw a Male SchH1, Kkla1 6 yrs old for sale. His price was $4500
that included shipping. Would any of you pay that? Is that a good price? Thanks!

Did you say six years old. Check life span of GSD first.

before buying - get updated xrays, sperm count, blood chemistry panel including thyroid panel, (you will have to pay for these) get teeth checked while at vet and get videos - doing obedience and proteciton work and walking normally in social situations (slippery floors, down busy street, with kids, etc).
or better yet, go and see the dog.

Maybe, maybe not. There are SO many other factors to consider, price being a lesser concern. I'd pay whatever I could afford if it's something I wanted bad enough, and never sell for ANY price that which I wished to keep.

Thanks for the input! I am going to see him this weekend, and have asked about social situations, he is driven like crazy but clear headed in normal
situations. He has had a sperm count done last month, extreemly good. The rest I will ask her to have done for me. He's a gorgeous dog, hope it works out.
I think I may be able to get her down a little plus, he's in driving range for me so I assume? she will take off some if he isn't shipped.

Shipping an adult dog is about $450, plus crate, and health certificate...within the continental USA...

Does the dog have a pedigree you want and like? Either do your own helper work of take your own helper to work the dog. Plus all of the other things recommended already.

All of your input has been very helpful, thanks to all of you.

I am not adverseto spending money on dogs, but i think it is a very high price for a dog well past his prime.
I spent significantly more than that on each of my three dogs, but they were younger. I suspect you are buying heartache.

I guess I would want to know why he is only SchH1 at this age?
And your purpose for purchasing him etc. Price does seem a bit
high for a middle aged dog. Make sure you do a heartworm test on
him too. And no, seller likely won't knock anything on the price because
they won't be shipping him, most don't include shipping and health
certificate, crate etc in the price. That's all the onus of the buyer.
