Jasmin Mata

by Jasmin Mata on 16 January 2013 - 05:01

After bringing my girl back from the groomers, I decided to take some stacking photos. After taking a few, I realized that she looks a lot shorter and stockier than other shepherds that I have seen.

She is only ten months right now, might she get any taller? It might also be the camera postioning. Oh and btw, she is a WL/SL cross. Could that be the reason for her looking so short? Or maybe the way she is stacked? Here is her ped.  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dog.html?id=1831102

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is our girl. She appears short on leg also. However she is well within the GSDs standard height for females. She is 23 3/4 inches tall.  She is a deep bodied girl which makes her look shorter on legs than most.  I have seen this with a DDR litter of both males and females from that litter.  I do not remember the exact breeding other than they are pure DDR.  Remember the GSDs standard calls for a length to height ratio of 10 : 8.5 inches.  Your girl is young, give her time!

I think she is a vey pretty girl and you can send her to me if those legs are too short! Lol! The  photo looks a little distorted to me and viewing it on my ipad her body looks short. 'll be interested t o see what the experts have to say.

She is beautiful. I looked over each photo several times and it's difficult to tell. Maybe try taking some stacked photos outside with the photographer further back from her. Otherwise, the photos are nice.

Take the pictures from the dog's level.  The current pictures are taken from a much higher vantage point, making her legs appear short.....just an optical illusion.

jasmin- I think your dog looks just fine. Rather nice looking dog, just the way I like them.
Interesting mix of bloodline too. Could you tell us what her temperment is like and also what kind of drives does she have.

Legs don't look short to me, but she is 'square', which I like!

President Abe Lincoln was asked;'' how long should a man's legs be?'' He replied '' long enough to reach the ground''.          this dog is over weight and coated which adds to the look of short legs. it is longer than tall in ratio of body which adds to this ''look''.

I saw this lady with a Dog that looked just like a GSD but it was an offspring of a mating between a GSD and a Bassett hound. So you can guess what i saw. The lady pointed at my GSD and said "thats what mine was supposed to look like". When they stood next to each other my GSD looked like a lifted 4x4. The thing is her GSD/Bassett had a beautiful  markings rich black and red.
