Not technically anything to do with dogs but a scam everyone should be aware of. Thieves copy down the numbers on the gift cards that are on the display rack at the store, like Wal Mart ect. that have them on display. Then they wait till someone buys the card and activates it. Calls in, checks the balance, then goes shopping. You don't discover the gift card has been spent till Christmas. Mike

How do they shop without the actual card in hand?

Alot of these places as long as you have the number no problem. Lost the card. Just like giving them your sredit card number cause you can't find the card.

And most stores have on-line sales also. Just enter the number at check-out.

Yes they do online or phone shopping and have it sent to a p.o. address for pic up later with a fake name. Like its being sent as a gift PI's can still trace the crook but it takes time Buy your gift cards from behind the counter from an empoyee in service dept.Fraud is everywhere even under the counters in our stores this time of the year,,,,,,

Wow, that is terrible AND brilliant! Do you think Target, Pier One and other stores know this is going on and trying to fix it? Because, you can get the number off the back of the Target gift card, then use it online easily. Yikes.

They get the number off the ones hanging on the racks by the register where u check out...like at lowes, Walmart, etc do no buy those go to the service dept and buy from behind the counterl The crooks stand in line take a pad and pen and write the first 5 or 6 numbers hanging on the rack go home wait 5-10 days and they know someone evidentually buys one of them they call the co and say this is my number Ive lost my card and want to use it because it was given to me wow they tell him his amount he has on the card and they go to work buying it up and the poor guy who got the gift card never spends it or gets to use it someone beat him to it........
