Terrible radiograph!!! the legs are not straight and the knees are not rotated. The pelvis is tilted. The hips are definitely not perfect but very hard to tell to what degree because of the very poor positioning. I would guess OFA would not rate this dog as dysplastic.  Too bad people take their vet's word as the gospel truth with out getting a second opinion of an expert like OFA.  This dog does not deserve to be PTS!!! I can imagine all the malarkey the vet is feeding the owner about meds and surgery, to put a dime in his/her pocket!! Any vet that would take a diagnosis from this radiograph, is not to be trusted with knowing how to manage the dog's future... Oh well.... the vet got spay money out of already..... makes me sick!!

The positioning is not perfect but there is no way this dog wouldn't pass OFA. It's not even a close call; the dog clearly has normal hips for the breed.

The vet said this dog is dysplastic? He or she had better go back to school and take some radiology classes. If possible, please post his or her name here so others know to avoidhaving any dogs xrayed there. It's disgraceful to think that a licensed vet would be so stupid.

This dog looks like the hips would go Good to Excellent, although quite a crappy x-ray...

Maybe you can talk her out of doing something stupid.
Why doesn't she just return the dog to the breeder?

I think sometimes the vets tell people their dog has bad hips so they can talk them into spaying the dog,
and of course go back for more follow-ups.

Please let people know the name of her vet.

Why in the world would she immediately opt for euthanasia instead of finding a good home for the dog?? Holy shit that is totally ignorant. Tell her before she euth's the dog to send the xrays to ofa to be read.
Does the dog have other issues? I just cant see someone that would care for a pet decide to euth right off the bat, If she thought it would be an issue, find it a new home and tell them she thinks its dysplastic and give them the xrays.
Thats just crazy sheeesh.

I don't think she would have gone Excellent because of the "squaring" of the femoral heads and the filling in below it. (you can see this better in the first view) Quite possibly Good though!!
Stupid is correct, on both ends (vet and owner). Clearly this vet is just out to make money and does not have a clue OR knows the client does not have a clue.
Also at 1 year of age, the "walking funny" could have been Pano! Can't really see the long bones to be able to tell or not.

TOO many vets think they can take good X-Rays and Read them...It's an art...And...TOO many people think their vet can Take and Read X-Rays...

To me...there are a select few vets that can Take and Read Good X-Rays...Before I'd let any vet Take and Read my dog's Hip & Elbow X-Rays I'd check around with some of the Working Dog people to see who they use...You can also check with your local Police K-9 Depts...

Love how everyone is assuming the VET told this whackaloon that the hips were bad.

This person walked IN to the vet's already CONVINCED the dog had bad hips because the dog walked 'funny'.  Those films could have shown an OFA Excellent set of hips, and she'd STILL be claiming the dog's hips were bad.  I don't fault the vet for doing the spay, because there's little harm to be done in that, and it's an acceptable elective surgery.  Don't be so quick to think that the vet would agree to put this dog down readily based on the hips--but don't put it past the owner to lie and claim the dog was now 'vicious' and had bitten her and had to be put down immediately for that reason.

The breeder of this dog needs to get her away from this woman yesterday, and rehome the poor thing before this nutcase has her killed for no reason other than a mentally unbalanced owner with a checkbook.

Thank all of you for your input.  I agree with most of the postings too!  The woman is one of those who always thinks people, including herself and her children are sick.  She told me her daughter is dying and she can't sleep because the girl might stop breathing.  I've seen the daughter, looks like a normal little girl, running and playing.

She did tell me the breeder she bought the pup from and I will contact that breeder and hope something can be done.  Funny, not even a month ago, she told me her dog was doing well, no issues.  She did not mention the name of the vet, but claims she herself was a vet tech for 10 years.....I doubt it.   She also seems way too young to have been a vet tech for 10 years.  A couple of months ago she emailed and told me she herself had a hysterectomy.

Although there is nothing wrong with the dog, it is a saving grace if she really did have her spayed to prevent her from ever breeding!  That would be even worse.  I got the email just the day after Christmas, which also seemed odd.....I mean, who rushes to the vet the day after Christmas to xray hips and then immediately spay the dog.  It seemed to me like she is trying to get money back from the breeder, but with these xrays I don't think she stands a chance at that.  All kinds of excuses why she can't/won't send to OFA as well.   She doesn't have an intact male dog, so why would anyone rush to spay the dog?  She had always said the dog was beautiful and healthy.  Well, except when she first got her as a pup and I got a weird phone call asking me if she should have the dog tested for a stricture in the urethra.....the pup was only a few months old.  I told her I hadn't seen anything wrong with the pup last I'd seen her and it seemed like she backed off of it.  It turned out the pup had pyoderma.....and I suspect it was really a food allergy because she told me she was feeding her cheap food and said the more expensive food upset her stomach....oh it is sad, what people can do.

Thank you again for the comments and anyone else who wants to put their two cents worth in is welcome.  This woman is from Texas, she says, but moves around a lot because she says her husband is in the military, if one can even believe that.  Only met him once and he seemed normal, but didn't say much.  He had a Texas accent, but she doesn't.  Wait....she also mentioned once that she was going to get a male from a breeder in Oklahoma....but anytime I asked about that later on, she said she was going to wait until they were transferred again.  Just wondering if anybody knows her, but hope nobody else sells her a dog.  Enclosing pic of the female GSD she sent me a few months ago, the one supposedly in the xrays.
