No I knew better than to cash it.But I took it to my bank just to show my friends at the bank how real it looked.
The bank was totally fooled by this check, and kept it for their next security meeting.
The bank would of cashed that check with out a second thought.even the water mark was real.its really unbeleivable!!!

Was this from one of those "I'll send you a check, you cash it, and I'll give you a tip for your troubles" kind of scam things?

No maligator it was not. These people from other countrys look for ads of honest people selling dogs cats etc. They cant spell the american language very well at all,so that alone is a dead give away.
They try to convince the seller that they have an overseas shipping company and mail the extra money for you to cash and wire them the difference.
they are so not interested in the animal that they stress you wiring the money more than the questions they ask about the animal.
what is sad is ,that their are people who actually fall for this scam and cash these checks, and the inocent person cashing it has to pay back the bank.
ironically the banks cash them and dont know their fraud for at least 4-5 days. its very sad.

Yeah I had a bunch of these when I had an add in my local paper. All forein and they all sounded similar and had bad spelling. Never do they ask anything aboutthe dog, just want it sight unseen. I thought this odd and wrote the first couple back. You never will geta response. I was like you have to be super stupid to think I am going to give you any info about myself not having spoke a word about what you are even looking for in a pup.

My favorite:
"Hello Sir/Madam: I am intrestid in your pet/produkt."
Very sad indeed!

I write back to them saying Not gonna SCAM me go away, and report them to the internet scam tracking task force. Never hear from the same one twice !! and lately have not heard from them at all, think I must have got the point accross and they must have put the word out, SHE REPORTS !! ROFL. :-)

I tell them the "last price" is 1,000,000.00 USD, how many would they like? LOL
That usually gets rid of them.
