We have to board our Germane Shepherd for the holidays 2-3 days ,he will be in familiar surroundings with his vet we will take his food, but I am concerned and worried, we keep him inside with us. We have a routine and he obeys so well, he wines when we leave the room and he always wants us to both be with him if I am with him he will whine for my husband and do the same if my husband is the one with him . We can not take him with us there will be no where to keep him and so many people.I do not know if anyone will be there on Christmas Eve and Cristmas Day I feel sure they will check on the pets I ask to see the kennel he will be in and it was very clean..I guess I am worrying for nothing..just needed some support. Thanks

He'll miss you and maybe not eat much while you are gone, but your vet will take good care of him and he will be safe.
One suggestion, I always was glad we did, was have the dog groomed before you pick him up.  He'll be so sweet and clean and huggable when you pick him up.

When you have him groomed, tell them not to "fluff" the fur.  I made that mistake once and you think they shed now.... what until they are groomed and the fur is fluffed.

As a former employee of a vet that offered both boarding and full grooming services. i can offer a few "normal" suggestions that usually go on behind the scenes at "Most" vet offices.
The cleaning and vet care staff will be there no less then 3 times daily to care for the animals. While they are closes to the public. Usually someone is in at the crack of dawn to start walking and feeding the animals. Cleaning crew are making sure the kennels are cleaned up and fresh bedding and food/water is supplied. Vet staff is checking on the animals who need medications, dogs with diareha and anyone who is not looking or acting normal.
Most places have them return again at noon for walks and clean up and again in the evening for second feedings and more cleaning and walks. Depending on who and what is going on someone may also come later at night to check on them again. Your dog will not be totally alone. There will be many other animals there for him to whine at. But most will only whine back.

As for having the dog groomed. Fawndallas, who ever washed your dog was not that good a groomer, because if i had washed and "Fluffed" your shepherd you wouldn't have any loose coat left to shed out. Because i know how to wash dry and brush a dog so that they have nothing left to shed. It should be weeks before the dogs start blowing more coat after i'm done with them. Chances are your dog just for a bath and quick blow dry. Not a serious deshed.
So if the grooming staff really knows their stuff have them groom the dog. Since after a few days of stressing in a kennels because he's in a strange place and mom and dad are not there to coddle him, he may be a bit stinky.
He'll be in good hands and if anything goes wrong they will take good care of him.

Thanks so much for the infro. he knows all the ladies that work with him and we take him once a month for his bath which he loves and goes in the bath by himself.I wish I was not worrying so much but when we go and get him he is so excited you would think he had been there a week or more ! Well we will know how this is going to work out with him soon , thanks again !

To put it nicely, GSD's are not the favorites of most boarding kennels for a number of valid reasons. It's always a good idea to get a GSD accustomed to the kennel where you will be boarding him/her by taking him there for a few hours at a time.
