The Samoyed used to come in colors of white, black, or white and black. Today however, the white has become so popular that black hardly ever shows up anymore. A truly white Samoyed is said to have a silver glow on the coat. So most Sammy are pure white, white and biscuit, or cream. Truly white Samoyeds outer coats are silver-tipped. So, blacks are rare but they do exist in pureblooded Samoyeds. It is considered a fault with the AKC along with blue eyes. So black Samoyeds, are pet quality and will not be worth much to most people. It's the same with brindle German Shepherds. They exist in pureblooded German Shepherds, but most people don't like them and try to get rid of the color. DNA testing has proven the dogs are pure, but many breeders and kennel clubs (like the AKC) just hate the colors too much to allow them.

My money is on this not being a purebred Samoyed litter--and DNA will bear it out. Assuming that there's no question as to the lineage of either the female or the male Samoyeds that were mated, the most likely scenario is that another dog managed to breed this female as well, unbeknownst to the owner of the female...and that dog ended up being the one which is the sire of the resulting pups.

I agree with Hexe. These things do not just"pop up." Odds are some other, non-Samoyed black dog bred her, too.

Sammies do throw black on occasion - not often but it does happen. It is not an accepted color, I would love to see the pedigree.
