Hello everyone,

I am looking forward to buying this puppy but there is a white mark on the left back foot but the breeder says that it will fade out when the puppy grows.

Kindly advice if this is not a problem and has no health issues or whatsoever.

From the picture, I assume this is a German Shepherd puppy?  If so, from my limited knowledge, it will depend on what your long term plans for the puppy are.

If you intend to show or breed the puppy, I think these white marks are considered a fault.  I also notice the puppy has clear nails, I think these too are considered a fault.

For any other application, i.e. family pet, sport events, I do not think there are any issues with these white markings.

Personally, I think they are kind of cute and makes the puppy unique.  All of my comments are my own opinion from reading other posts and what I have been taught by others on this forum.

Most white toes fade.  That one may fade completely or just have a little left.  It is a fault but I've noticed lately dogs having larger white spots on the chest and multiple white toes/feet and still being given top ratings.  If you really like everything else about the dog and breeder, it probably won't matter.  I personally don't like it, but I've seen dogs with more white on their feet from good breedings and it has faded.

It is not a problem and is not a health issue.  It will likely fade away by adulthood.   The white spotting gene is very common in the GSD, it is a very, very minor fault in the show ring, most judges overlook it entirely.   You have nothing to worry about with the white spot.

Fawn, a puppy that young will often have light nails; they get darker later as
the nail surface forms properly.

Thank you so much for the replies.

I am planning to Import this pup from Germany to my country so do you think it would be worth buying as some of you consider it as a fault.
the breeder is good undoubtedly but if I plan to show it in then deifintely it would not be a good options?

Simon, how many weeks was the pup when this pic was taken ?
(I think he (?) is very cute, btw). Thanks.

PS Fawn doesn't have Show dogs.  Listen to EuroShepherd and
VKGSDs, they agree with what I told you in my last PM.

Personally I don't like white toes/feet and I've seen some that *don't* fade even though the dogs are not being faulted for it, so I'd ask for photos of all the puppies and I'd look up photos of other progeny and make sure it's not very prevalent or there is evidence of the dogs outgrowing it.  Just in general, for me to import a puppy sight unseen it would have to be exactly what I want (with a lot of research and a good reason to trust the breeder/previous relationship with the breeder).

Linda, the pup was almost 4 weeks when this picture was taken.

I think that he's very cute too.

I started to read about it and most of the people think that its a fault.
I hope that it fades out when the puppy grows older or it sheds its puppy coat?

or you could do like some do for their dobies in the akc show ring.  and just use your black majic marker before you go in.
Just kidding don't do that.
