What other breed is so utilized on a daily basis that impacts all our lives, one way or another.
I think it funny, while watching Cops on TV, or war documentarys, disaster zones, and there you will always find, the German Shepherd.
You see criminals fleeing the seen, 20 cops with guns and tazers chasing after them, as soon as it is stated,"we are letting the dog go, if you don't come out now",
And sure as shit, they can't hold their hands 'high enough' over their heads.
At the airport, there they are, the German Shepherd,
Crime scene, sniffing out whatever, German Shepherds,
Earthquack, searching for survivors, German Shepherds,
Getting Bin Laden, German Shepherds
Missing children, German Shepherds
And, I see a variety of the different lines, doing all this Real Work.
I guess I was just appreciating my dogs today. Mine I guess were doing their jobs today, just being my dogs.
( I do still think my dogs are the best)(don't you think you have the best darn dogs?)

Isn't it funny all the different discussions, plus's-minuses about this line, that line, but in the end it's a German Shepherd.

The dog used by Seal Team 6 during the raid that removed OBL from this planet was named Cairo. Which is a Belgian Malinois. Not a GSD.
I'm a GSD fan -- always will be but sadly a lot more new working dogs entering service work seem to be Malinois. That is until the public gets popular with them and they breed them in to a mess then something new will be found.

I guess there are conflicting stories as to which breed was used in the raid,( it really is irrelavent to my point) different news reports differently.
In the 'overall'scheme of dogs in the military, the German Shepherd still remains a top contender; and my dog of choice !
And German Shepherds are still the majority in that area of service work, AND DOING A DAMN GOOD JOB AT WHAT THEY DO...

err what concerns me in all those roles you mentioned yes you will see gsd's but to complete the picture you should have also added that you will see less gsd's in those roles each year and more as pet roles. anyone know the numbers of german shepherds used by the german police/millitary compared to other breedseg mals/dutchies. so as positive as yr post sounds i think it also carries some denial.
@vk4gsd: You sir.. Or mam? Don't know. I apologize in advance.. I owe you a cold one. Not because you agreed with me. I don't mind disagreement, honestly I would prefer to debate. Respectfully, tactfully and intelligently.
@KitKat you have bucked up on me because I checked you on the mailinois fact. That was the only, single and very minimal point that I differed upon. Basically, I gave you 7/8. Guess what? That is agreemant.
I love the breed. I also respect Maillinois, Dutch etc -- I love herding dogs. GSD is just my favorite. Their quirks and crazy off the wall things they do win me over. Don't snap fingers at me because I respectfully corrected you on your false statement.
I digress..

bc- sorry, but I am not "bucking up" on anyone, I could be wrong. Won't be the first time, and certainly won't be the last.
It is really not that important to me, which breed of dog was used , I was reading around the internet and found a few articles that claim it was German Shepherd, a few that say Malinois;
And as far as more German Shepherds as pets, I don't have a problem with Shepherds in pet homes. My kids were brought up with German Shepherds and Dobermans, and now, they too have German Shepherds as part of their "family make-up".
My mom is 82 years old, and she also has Shepherds living in the home with her. In fact she just took in another dog. A five year old German Shepherd that my sister bred.
The owner had to move quickly, and was unable to take his dog. Once he relocates, he will get his dog back.
So really bc, no argument or bucking from my end.
