I have 2 puppies from my new litter that have interesting coloration. At birth I thought they were black and tan, but today their bodies have the brown sable markings. Their bodies are very dark and do not have the sable stripe like their obvious sable siblings. Sire is sable, dam is blanket back black and tan. Will these grow up to be like the saddle patterned sables?

Yup, looks like they'll end up patterned sables :) Could be blanketed sables too, though

Very possible. Hard to tell right now, though the feet can be good indicators sometimes.

They might just be 'Black Sables' ie those which stay very dark,
with all over very black-looking guard hairs. With very dark sables
you don't see much variation in the colour, the back stripe etc gets
a bit 'lost' visually. As most sable puppies turn darker as they age -
and I am told black sables do this less than others, - you should
have a better idea by the time they are weaned.

Thanks, the feet are really what threw me off. I've had dark sables before and have seen black sables as puppies, but they all have dark feet. I haven't seen newborn sables with that clear cut tan on the feet.

My female looked similar when she was a puppy. This is her pattern now. She got it from her sire, they both were rather "orange" as puppies..lol born dark, then lightened up and the dark color did not come in til they bothc were 3 years old.
