I have been trying to find out where the American German Shepherd Dog Came from. Does anyone around here know?

The same place the GSL's, GWL's, Czech dogs, et al came from. They all go back to the same foundation dogs.

The watershed year was 1967, when Lance of Fran-Jo took GV, and German-born Bodo von Lierberg, German, Dutch AND Belgian sieger, who had been imported to the States, couldn't do better than excellent select. The American style of GSD evolved from pretty close linebreeding on Lance and his progeny. You wil have to look really, really hard to find an American line pedigree that does not have Lance in it multiple times!
Lance himself came from good quality imported German stock. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dog.html?id=402962

Thats interesting about the American GSD. I was wondering when the wall came down persay do you think as far as the DDR dogs coming to America or anyplace else for that matter that "they" as the DDR government breeding program, used that time in history to kinda dump the GSDs they didn't want for their program?

I don't think there was a program anymore and no need for one. A lot of people in the free world thought the DDR dogs were going to be the savior of the breed--in East Germany if a dog didn't work, he didn't live. Bad hips same way. Others got them because they were different unique. I had a boy out of one of the first DDR dogs to make it to Texas. Again no names of dogs or breeders but the folks that got him bred him to anything that walked and had AKC papers. It really was a shame.
On the flip side of the coin, along the waywhen the wall was still up there were some that were slipped out of East Germany and even made it here. One of the greatest--IMO--german dog men to live was known for getting them out. Ernest Loeb was his name.
As far as Lance goes, I thought he was a beautiful dog and I liked him. But he was a flavor of the month dog meaning he was used used and used more--I think he was overused myself. But I still like the Fran-Jo dogs--I went to the nationals to see one in person and he was everything I thought he would/could be. I am interested in bringng some of that blood in. He should have gone GV this year--twice the dog that Cappi is.
