Has anyone used this on paws to toughen them? good idea? bad idea? thank you

We used to use it at the kennel I worked at occasionally. My boss's dog would get sore pads on the concrete. It worked great but be sure it dries before you let the dog stand up. It does stain prior to drying pretty badly. :-))

is excellent, my folks used to treat our cattle dogs with it, to keep them from getting sore feet, About a week before we would go gathering she would treat them once daily, by the time we went to the mountains those dogs feet were like concrete, and never came home with sore footed dogs. :-) One thing... try to stay off the hair line with it, use a small makeup applicator brush or something like that to apply so it does not run off pad into hairline, Can somewhat irritate the skin.

Hi, I work an urban disaster dog and have found musher , a product used to sled dogs to work great. Our dogs are on concrete, rebar, glass etc when working tornados, earth quakes or other types of rubble

Don't substitute kopertox for condiontioning though. A combination is the best, it does help but....

Yes, I've used Kopertox on my dogs, it does work but, as other have said, it will stain. Musher's Secret is the ultimate pad protector; I believe it is still available on the net. Mushers know a lot about toughening dogs pads.

Can I use this stuff between the toes? my boy has what looks like a hot spot up inside between the toes and he's limping some.  It's weepy like a hot spot.

gsdlvr2:  Your dog likely has ingrown hairs between the toes.  Kopertox is not the answer.  It must be treated at the vet.

Mushers Secret is very good for toughening pads. As  you can guess by the name, it is popular with dog mushers whose dogs must have the toughest feet possible. If interested, google the name.

GSDLVR2,  your dog may have what is commonly called interdigital cysts. They start out looking like very small purple grapes located between the toes way back in the webbing at the base of the toes.  Sometimes they rupture and ooze a bloody, sticky discharge. Most often they are found on the front foot/feet between the 3rd and 4th toes, but can also be found in other areas and on the rear feet. No one knows for sure what causes them, but ingrown hairs are a possibility as are allergies and foreign bodies. Blitz gets them now and then and I've had success treating them with warm water soaks, Panalog, keflex and them having him wear socks on the effected feet. He doesn't seem to mind the socks so lets them on as long as I want him to wear them. These things can really get sore and tender  and the dog can become lame. I've been lucky with him as my home treatment seems to work, they go away and don't come back for a long time. He's 6 now and I've only had to treat him 3 times so far. Some vets want to lance them, but I've never seen that work too well, so I've tried to avoid that. So far, so good.

It works really well for hooves that get thrushy from standing in wet weather.  I would suggest using it in good ventilation as the fumes can almost knock you over in an enclosed space.
