[dropped jaw] And this dog was a RESCUE??? How in the name of all things just did a dog like this end up in the rescue stream? Your best source of info would be the breeder, Mike Diehl--he's presently got a litter on the ground that's a repeat of the breeding which produced the dog you have, and Rasto was his dog.
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/classifieds.viewad?adid=167506.
Sadly, Rasto passed away recently after being diagnosed with lymphoma in August of this year, which surely broke Mike's heart, but hopefully having been able to get one last litter of baby Rasto's helps ease that just a tiny bit.
[smh] How did this dog come to need rescuing??? You're quite the lucky rescuer--this is a really nicely bred dog!

Hexe,
A customer of mine called me...said that he got the dog from a guy here in Ohio that got him when he was 7 mo old. Wanted him for SchH work, but the dog will absolutely not bite. Therefore the first guy had no use for him and was giving him away. My friend answered the ad, and they met. When my guy told the other guy that he would make some calls to see if he could help place him, the first guy told him that either the dog goes home with him right then or there, because he wasn't going back home with him. (you can read into that what you want..i know how we took it)
Anyway, my friend called me because he knows that I have GSD's, and I scooped him right up. I knew of some of the dogs in his pedigree....but it wasnt until I researched on here that I truly knew what I had. (and yes, the guy gave him the AKC papers...signed and all! :) LOL )
"Sarge" , which is what we are calling him, is an awesome boy. Very typical 1 yr old pup... crazy ball drive too. I can't wait to start working with him. :) We are having some issues with my b/f's male (neutered mix breed), that we are hoping to work out...if not..won't be the first time I choose a dog over a man! LOL Sarge is not agressive with him at all...and is absolutely in love with my solid blk female GSD.

Deimo & His dad Rasto & his mom Heidi were my dogs...not Mike Diehl's. I sold Deimo to a fellow from Ohio. When I sold him his
ball drive was very high (like his dad's) His drive for a rag was also very high. Food drive was good. The fellow wanted the pup
for schutzhund so I directed him to some Ohio UScA clubs. A week or 2 later the buyer told me he had taken Deimo to a "trainer"
& that the trainer had said the pup's nerves were good and pup could do any type of work. Buyer was happy with pup except for
some crate accidnets/poop schedule timing. Some time later (I'd have to check old e-mail) the buyer said that the dog would not bite.
Said dog walked into the training building & hackled up & would not bite or play. The fellow said his grandaughter loved the pup but he
did not think pup would make a working dog. . I have seen enough inexperienced people ruin their new SCH puppy so I was not
surprised. I told the buyer that if I found anyone looking for a male pet I would get ahold of him. A week or so ago the fellow contacted
me (through my daughter's facebook acct) & said he new someone who wanted Deimo, would it be OK to place him. I said yes. I'm saddened
to see that he ended up as a rescue. I guess I mis-read that situation. Hopefully he is in a good home now. If you need anything ladywolf let me know.
As it turns out he and his male littermates are Rasto's last male pups. We had 1 male pup in the litter we have on the ground. He got something
stuck deep in his esophagus & we had him PTS Friday. He was going to be my Rasto replacement. Not much good going on in the dog world
for me right now. This thread doensn't make it much better.

My apologies, Mike, for the confusion--don't know why I typed "Diehl" when I meant to type your last name, which is clearly listed in your ad and on your webpage.
My condolences on Rasto's passing...knowing it was coming certainly wouldn't have made it the least bit easier on you...he was in the prime of his life, and gone far too soon. Likewise, I feel the heartache in your words on losing Rasto's last son, who was intended to carry his father's legacy by your side.
Take some comfort in knowing that Deimo appears to have landed in good hands now, is with someone who appreciates him for the dog he is, and you haven't lost track of him--I'm betting you'll hear from ladywolf [if you haven't already! LOL], and who knows what will happen from there? Fate rarely travels a straight path...perhaps this is the route that was meant to put you back in touch with one of Rasto's sons again.

Mike,
I hope something works out and perhaps you can get Rasto's son back with you. As Hexe stated, sometimes things are just meant to turn out this way. Not to jack the thread from Ladywolf but its really nice to see breeders come here with the intentions of doing what is right.

Mike,
I, too, would like to offer my condol., on you loss.
I can only go by what Im told on his short past, but from what I can see thus far,
It would appear that he could have been in the hands of an inexp person at some point. He still has awesome ball and food drive, but its like he is "afraid" to bite, for whatever reason. And he has some serious seperation issues. But still a wonderful little man!! :)
Im going to spend alot of time over the next few weeks trying to rebuild his confidence, because I can still see it in there. Either way....he has definately found a forever home for sure!! :)
...i will try to call you tomorrow, if that is ok.
