You should buy some livers and blues too!
Oh...I forgot! Livers are now called CHOCOLATE GSDs!

[Dammit...where IS that SARCASM font??? I keep looking for it, but can never find it when it's needed!!!]

Seriously, though--no, black and silver isn't 'better' than black and tan, or sable, or solid black, or bi-color... While it technically fits the breed standard, black & silver is considered to be a 'washed out' coloration; it's a black & tan that's being affected by one of the genes that cause dilution or muting of the actual basic color. Coat color and coat marking genetics get pretty complex when you start looking at it in depth.
That said, there's plenty of people who really, really like the black and silver, and others who favor black and cream dogs, very often because that's the coloration of a GSD they had as a child, or that lived down the street from them and was a really, really cool dog and they want THAT kind of dog again. But neither of these color schemes are going to be readily found in the European lines, for the most part, because the breeders are actively selecting against producing those paler coats.

I think my byb 1 year old is actually a black and silver; her mom was a white gsd....I much prefer the black/red, myself... .
guess it's easier to sell something if people think it's rare or unusual?

I'll be darned if I can find an explanation of how this works, because everyone swears the white gene does NOT produce paler colours!
I did find a website that says if white GSD breeders want whiter dogs, they will breed to black and silvers. [shrug]
