Thank you Nan.
I need to find a way to make her go and come at higher speed (she is very fast in everything she does, except in retrieving).
How do I get that?

There are a lot of different tools in the tool box for speeding up a retrieve.

I've had the most success with the following:

Really liven up drive for the retrieve object.  Your puppy is very adorable but with all due respect in this video *you* are pretty boring.   Play a lot of keep away, a lot of near misses, squeal and make it an exciting game, really build up her drive and desire to get the object.   When you have her just desperate for the object taken her collar and toss the retrieve object away and then pump her up more, really sell it "Where is it?!?! Where is it?!?!"  Then release and "Bring!"

That should help speed out.

For speed back, you are either going to need a toy (ball) that she values highly or really make a game out of that tug bar.   You need to make it so she associates more play and fun with *you* and the faster she gets back to you the sooner she either gets her highly valued toy or the sooner she gets to play with you.   Right now she is giving you the tug and that is actually not a good thing because in the end of all this you want her to show a full, calm grip on the dumbell, releasing only when you give her the command "out". When you are certain she is done teething I would play tug of war with her and this tug, push it into her mouth and run back tapping your chest to invite her to bounce into you and play some more.

There are a lot of nuances to retrieve work, too many to go into over the internet really, you need to see it done or better yet have someone work with you.   At 5 months though you can really work on building up her drive and your own excitement, if you can build the drive for it then you should have the building blocks for speed and accuracy later.  This is a really good video on building drive http://leerburg.com/101e.htm

fsobrinho,
Very nice pup!  I would suggest separating all of the exercises that you are teaching and breaking them down into their fundamentals.  I would also pause for 3 to 5 seconds between the exercises; especially the sit and down and vice versa.  Your dog will link those commands together and associate them as one command.  For the speed on the retrieve I would try the "two ball game" and teach a fast recall first.  Rlhar has given you some good advice.  Good luck with your pup.

RLHAR thank you very much for your comment - You are absolutely right and I needed yo hear it to realize it.

My sons and daughters (the one in the movie is the older) do play a lot with the 3 GSD we have and this time is a "training time" and the behaviours you recommended are highly used.

But I asked them to always have some time (in the case of this dog is less than 5 minutes per day) as a "proof-time" where you have to show what you are achieving with your dog.

I remember now that at first exercises of retrieve she was very fast - She slowed to actual speed when we started working the  "GO" command.

So, the problem is now to accumulate the "GO" from a static posture and the "fast restrieve".

Thanks and regards

Thank you Slamdunc for your suggestions.

I noticed that the dog very often anticipates the commands - she performs a milisecond before you tell her to.

I will make another video at 6 mo and I will mark the pauses.

Thanks and regards,
