Breed Survey / Dental Certification question - Page 1

I have a dog I am getting breed surveyed in a few weeks (dog is completely "HOT" and titled in about a dozen different things by me and I will be handling him and presenting him for his survey).  He does not have a dental certification.  I was told to get one if this is not a lifetime survey (it's not) but it seems redundant to me.  Isn't the dentition examined and noted in the Koer report? So is an official Koer report not acceptable if the dog were to say, chip or break a tooth after his first survey but before his lifetime? I have no problem paying the additional charge for a dental certification but to me it just seems odd that an actual Koer report would not be viable as proof the dog had complete dentition.

you don't need a dental certification for a breed survey, because as you stated the dentition is examined at the survey.  A dental certification is needed if the dentition is not complete, then you go to the breed survey with the certification and it is entered into the pedigree at the same time as the breed survey is entered.  I like to get certification done in case something happens to a tooth, there is no hassle with vets, xrays etc. before the breed survey, but it is not mandatory.  And no, here in Germany it doesn't cost a thing.

What about *after* the breed survey?  Say you want to keep showing your dog but he breaks a tooth in training.  Do you present your breed survey report as proof that the tooth was there?  Or do they only accept a dental certification?

after the breed survey is done, that is as good as the dental certification, even better.  The dental certification is important until the breed survey is done.

Thank you, that is what I was assuming/hoping, it makes the most sense.  Getting a dental certification after a breed survey seems pointless, though I supposed I can have the judge note the dentition in the scorebook during the breed survey (our scorebooks have a place for it).
