What ages should I have the first set of X-rays on hips and elbows done? I see people talking about prelim X-rays and I assume there is a set done before the set at two years old? I thought I had read somewhere that they need one around 11 months but cant find the thread. Thanks

You can do prelims as early as 6 months.

For OFA, I usually did them @ approx. 12 months, unless there was reason to suspect a problem.

I have done as early as 4 months; however I don't recommend that. YOu could do at 6 months though and get at least an idea of what you are dealing with and if any possible problems you can adjust your training/exercise program then rather than wait until 1 year and possibly be causing some damage from over working/training/ jumping, etc. Nan

I do them 6-8 months and don't send them to OFA. So far they've been very normal. If there was anything out of the ordinary I know an expert who will look at the films and give his opinion.

Prelims can be done as early as 4 months for elbows and 6 months for hips. The older the pup the more accurate.
SV certifies hips and elbows at 12 months
OFA certifies at 24 months
Different countries have different age requirements.
Always try to plan x-rays in-between heat cycles as young bitches tend to show more laxity(sp) at this time.
